Karolyn Kolb Martinez “Excellence in Nursing" Memorial Scholarship Fund
Karolyn was a Registered Nurse for 32 years, providing compassionate and Christ-centered care to thousands of patients over the years. The majority of her career was as an Emergency Department nurse and a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. At the time of her death, she was actively pursuing a master’s degree in Nursing Education to follow her passion of educating nurses and those working to become nurses. This scholarship was established to honor Karolyn’s memory by providing the opportunity of nursing education to men and women who display the same high standards for nursing excellence, care and compassion that she demonstrated.
Projected Number of Scholarships and Amount(s): one scholarship will be awarded annually with the amount recommended by the Advisory Selection Committee.
Criteria for Selection and Eligibility:
• Applicants must provide proof of acceptance in an accredited nursing program – i.e. LVN, ADN, BSN – before scholarship can be funded.
• The nursing program must be part of Schreiner University or the Alamo Colleges District.
• If currently enrolled in the above-mentioned nursing programs, applicants must provide proof of enrollment, an official transcript or transcripts, an overall grade point average and a completed scholarship application which includes the expected date of graduation.
• If already enrolled in a Schreiner University or Alamo Colleges District LVN, ADN, or BSN program, applicants must have and maintain a grade point average of at least 2.5.
• Applicants must be of good moral character, have a strong sense of personal responsibility and have a high regard for ethics.
• Applicants should demonstrate a financial need for funding.
• Upon completion of the application, qualified applicants may be asked to appear for a personal interview.
