Green Phoenix Permaculture envisions a culture and practice of a collaborative, nurturing and sustainable model of living that chooses social and environmental responsibility, diversity and creativity. Green Phoenix's purpose is to promote the growth of sustainable culture, businesses and communities in the Northeastern United States through economic initiatives, community building, and education.
From our original Business Plan document Apr 27, 2005:
Green Phoenix Sustainable Communities will be a community land trust and an educational public charity organization. Our purpose will be to acquire and hold community land in perpetuity, maintaining its use for long term community and ecological purposes. It is in the interest of these common needs that we will lease land to appropriate businesses, community farms, and support affordable sustainable housing initiatives. We will also provide learning to the broader community on the subject of permaculture, sustainable living and natural building techniques. Green Phoenix will also be structured to become a community credit union to provide capital resources to future sustainable initiatives. To accomplish our mission we intend to do the following:
1. Help strengthen existing sustainable initiatives and businesses in the region while providing an opportunity for others to grow.
2. Support the development of a system to connect the market needs of the people to local producers.
3. Acquire land, and hold it in trust for appropriate sustainable community uses.
4. Education, to train young people for the future of sustainable land use and land restoration in the region.
5. Build capitol leverage to support loans for fledgling sustainable businesses.
