Hey there!
After years (and years) of “pushing through” in a busy life I love, I hit my late 40s and I just couldn’t bounce back from being physically/emotionally/mentally spent like I could when I was younger. But I still resisted “rest” because slowing down felt like I was wasting time…
Then during my yoga training I was introduced to restorative yoga, iRest meditation and gentle breathwork and my perspective changed. Guess what happened? My energy and focus increased when I prioritized readiness and recovery. You know…like professional athletes…who people generally don’t accuse of being lazy.
I was SO excited about what I had discovered that I was sure EVERY busy person I know would want to learn how to recover effectively so they could stay sharp!!
Not so much. People still view “restorative” yoga and meditation as a luxury at best, time lost at worst. So for two years I have taken down the classes soon after I put them up on the schedule, feeling discouraged.
Well, I’ve been running a little ragged lately and had let my practices slide. I got back on my mat and into my breath…and the almost immediate impact has helped me decide to make it my mission to change hearts and minds about rest.
If we prioritize building our reserves as part of our regular routines, when we face a challenge (or feel wiped out as we pursue an opportunity), we can intentionally employ our resilience practices and remember that we will actually get farther faster when we value recovery as much as engagement.
What do you say local folks…give it a try?
I’ll be there every week and will do my best to teach you (in studio and right here) you all the reasons why you will be glad you joined me.
Let’s get well*rested together 💚
