The KENT BLACK ACTION COMMISSION (KBAC), under the leadership of Ms. Gwen Allen-Carston alongside elected officials and community leaders, celebrated a historic ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official launch and approved renaming of the MLK Memorial Highway in honor of the life, leadership, and lasting legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This meaningful initiative recognizes a significant portion of Benson Road/Highway stretching from North Benson Road and Petrovitsky Road in Renton, through the City of Kent, and ending at 256th Street, now officially designated as Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
The location is both symbolic and impactful, serving as a major connecting route between diverse neighborhoods, businesses, and community hubs throughout South King County. This historic renaming stands as a powerful reminder of Dr. King’s vision for unity, justice, equality, and community empowerment.
Congratulations to KBAC, community partners, elected officials, and the entire South King County community for preserving and uplifting Dr. King’s legacy for future generations.
