Under no circumstances can we allow the POTUS to demean women. He has a long history of saying vulgar things. This is not leadership. Women and girls deserve better and we must do better as a country.

Donald Trump told a journalist, “Quiet, piggy,” when she asked him about Epstein—continuing his pattern of demeaning women, Isabel Fattal argues in The Atlantic Daily: https://theatln.tc/qhbmV3aw

Women’s Health Care advances when women innovate. Let’s continue to promote STEM for girls.

The vaginal speculum, a device used in gynaecological exams, has remained largely unchanged since the 1800s. Originally designed by men during a time when women had no say in their own healthcare, the device has long been criticised for being uncomfortable, intimidating, and even painful. Despite advances in medical technology, women have been forced to endure the same cold, metal clamp for nearly two centuries. But now, a new generation of women engineers is saying enough is enough.

Recognising the trauma and discomfort many women experience during pelvic exams, female-led teams have stepped up to reimagine this outdated tool. What they’ve created is nothing short of revolutionary. New versions of the speculum are being designed with soft materials, quieter mechanisms, and ergonomic shapes that prioritise patient comfort and dignity. Some designs even incorporate smart technology, such as built-in lights and temperature control, helping both doctors and patients feel more at ease during exams.

This innovation is more than a design upgrade. It’s a statement that women’s health deserves better. It reflects a growing shift in medicine where empathy, user experience, and inclusion are finally taking centre stage. Engineers are working directly with patients and healthcare providers to understand their needs, redesigning tools that serve rather than scare.

Pelvic exams are essential for detecting cancers, infections, and reproductive issues. Making them more comfortable and accessible means more women are likely to get checked regularly, which can lead to earlier diagnoses and better health outcomes. A simple redesign has the power to save lives.

The fact that it took this long to update such a basic tool speaks volumes about the gender gaps in medical innovation. But the future is changing, thanks to brilliant women who dared to ask, “Why are we still doing this the old way?”

My own research in Southeastern Turkey revealed the value of uncles, brothers and fathers paving the way for girls’ access and persistence in education. I am excited to learn more about dismantling harmful patriarchy in all of its forms through engaging men and boys in the empowerment of women and girls. 👍🏽👍🏽

What role can men and boys play in breaking down patriarchal barriers—especially in crisis settings? 🤔 The Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies' new brief, Transforming Patriarchy, shows how they can become powerful agents of change by:

1️⃣ Meeting their gendered needs and vulnerabilities in —supporting their health, well‑being, protection, access & learning.
2️⃣ Challenging patriarchal attitudes—reflecting on privilege, coaching peers, partnering with women groups & advocating for gender‑equitable policies.

Hopefully another more modern and educated agent will swoop in and save the 👆🏽 above . We cannot afford to watch a generation of people slide backwards into abject poverty and despair because some wealthy, western people believe unchecked numbers of childbirths is a good idea. Let women have some control over their reproductive choices so they can pursue a life they desire. Ugh!? 😩

US to burn $9.7 million worth of USAID-purchased contraceptives rather than deliver them to women overseas | CNN The Trump administration is set to destroy $9.7 million worth of US-purchased contraceptives rather than deliver them to women overseas, following the dismantling of foreign assistance programs carried out by the US Agency for International Development, or USAID.
