๐ Welcome back, Kent State University TRIO Upward Bound students!
Our Health Professions track kicked off the summer with an exciting first week of hands-on learning at Henderson Hall.
These gained valuable first-aid experience by practicing essential life-saving skills, including administering EpiPenยฎ and Narcan, as well as learning how to safely use crutches.
A special thank-you to Kent Nursing faculty members Ann James and Laurie Robinson for leading these engaging sessions and helping students build confidence as they explore careers in healthcare.
Weโre proud of all theyโve accomplished already and canโt wait to see what they learn next! ๐โก

Yesterday, we were excited to welcome College Now Cleveland middle school students to campus for an engaging day of exploration and hands-on learning!
Students had the opportunity to hear from college leadership and experience our simulation, skills, and virtual reality labs firsthand. They listened to heart sounds, practiced wrapping techniques, learned the importance of proper handwashing, and even used a pulse oximeter.
It was inspiring to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they explored the nursing profession and gained exposure to the skills nurses use every day to provide compassionate, high-quality patient care.

๐โ๏ธ Our nursing students are currently exploring global healthcare in beautiful Florence, Italy! ๐ฎ๐น Last week, they visited The Museum of the Innocents, formerly the Hospital of Innocents, which operated from the 1400s through the late 1800s as a safe haven for children.
Families could anonymously leave children at the hospital, often alongside a small memento that was carefully cataloged so they could potentially reunite in the future. The children were cared for by nuns and educated by the Catholic Church before being adopted or released at age seventeen. If a family never returned, the child was taught a trade to help support themselves in adulthood.
Experiences like this offer our students a deeper understanding of the history of caregiving and the ways communities have supported vulnerable populations across generations. ๐
