Our March event is here! Join us on March 27th in the student center for some hand painting! You pick your favorite sign, and paint your hands to look like that sign. For example, if you choose the sign 'butterfly,' you would paint your hands in a way that when you signed 'butterfly,' it looked like a butterfly. on Instagram did this same event and have amazing examples posted!

If you are part of the club, meaning you have paid dues, it's free for you! And if you wanna bring a friend, it's only $2 for them to join in. We hope to see many of you there!

ASL CLUB IS BACK! Since the beginning of the fall semester, we have been having monthly meetings and holding fun events and parties for a non-classroom, hands-up environment. If you don't already, give our Instagram (.aslclub) a follow, as we are more active on there and post all events and will answer any questions! You can also drop any questions down below and we will be sure to get back to you!

Frequently asked questions:
What do I need to do to be a part of the club?
Pay dues, which are $6 for the semester, and hazing training (this is something you have to complete if you are a part of any organization on campus. It takes only 20-30 minutes to complete and if you have previously done it, then you're all set!)

What do my dues go towards?
Our special events and parties. You paying dues allows for us to have more fun events where we can have snacks, decorations, and things like that!

Do you guys have merch?
YES! We recently got a new design for the club and our t-shirt orders are open now! For more information, go here to our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/DFQVVkBRKb0/?igsh=MWdiZ3JzN3FubmFwdg==

Are you open to all levels and all majors?
YES! We are simply a space where you can learn more about ASL, the Deaf community, and converse outside of the classroom. For those with a lower level of signing, we do teach some signs in our monthly meetings but we also don't expect our advanced signers to hold back. We usually split by level when conversing, so it's less intimidating and everyone has the chance to get better.

What events do you do?
We have two monthly meetings: one on the first Monday of the month and one on the third Tuesday. These meetings are identical to allow for more people to show up if they can't make Monday or Tuesday nights work. This semester, we have a special event planned for each month. This month, we are doing a Barbie movie night with an interpreter on February 13th, with popcorn, cookies, and cute little valentines. We also do something called coffee chats, where we meet at Tree City in downtown Kent on Saturdays 10-11am. Every other week, these coffee chats will be dedicated to advanced signers to converse.

We are all sad that this is what it has come to but our officers are under a lot of stress and we aren’t getting the feedback we need from our community to keep going. The room we hold our meetings in is still reserved for the ASL Club meeting times but there will not be any planned topics, people can go and use the space to sign with friends but we ask you to please be respectful since it is still affiliated with our club that is still a Kent State Organization. We would love to pick back up where we left off next fall but we will see how life goes! We will miss all of you dearly but we are still here as a resource if needed!

ID 1: ‘I love you’ hands as the background in ASL Club colors on top of that is a cream-colored box with black text in a big font at the top ‘ASL CLUB UPDATE’ underneath says ‘The officers of the ASL Club have come together and decided to take a break from the club. This saddens all of us very much as we all have put in so much time, work, and effort into this club. Many factors went into this decision. As officers, we have had a lot of other responsibilities come up. We have also not seen as many students interested in participating in the club making it a little discouraging to put on meetings and events. The meeting room will still be reserved for the rest of the semester. This being said anyone is welcome to stop in and use that space and time to practice signing, relax, and hang out with friends. One day we hope ASL Club will start again but in the meantime…’

ID 2: Same ‘I love you’ hand background and cream box on top. In black text it says ‘Here are some resources’ Then there are 5 categories that will be listed in the comments.

We are still looking for officers to help us out this coming spring semester.

The spots that need to be filled are as follows:
Vice President: This position will help our president with filling out forms that are needed to put on our events, they might be asked to lead some of the meetings we have throughout the semester, and they will also be asked to help with organizing meetings and events.
Event Planner: This position will reach out to the university to book rooms for our events, fill out the paperwork needed for the events the club is putting on, and then get the supplies we might need for the events you plan.
Treasurer: This position will be in charge of the money we make from member fees and other activities where we make money like fundraisers or raffles, and they will be working with the event planner to make the budget for our events.

There is a link in our bio where you can apply to join our amazing team! If you have any questions regarding the positions, what we do as officers, or need any help with your application please message us and we are more than happy to help!

We have a bunch of merchandise for sale right now!
As always we have our signature KSU ASL Club shirts and stickers available. The shirts come in 5 colors; black, heather navy, white, sapphire, and blackberry. These shirts are $25! The classic KSU ASL Club stickers come in two sizes, the bigger sticker is $3 and the smaller size is $1. We recently added a fingerspelled KSU sticker for $3 as well!

We also have some older and misprinted merchandise for sale! The Kent State shirts with a fingerspelled ‘K’ and ‘S’ is a shirt the club had made a while ago before the COVID pandemic. These shirts are $10 and we have a limited supply! Lastly, we have a few of our misprinted t-shirts left. These shirts are just like our signature shirts except there was a printing miss-hap … there is no pink on the logo! We are selling these for 40% off the original price, making them $15. For these two shirts message us for the details on what sizes and colors we have left!
