When a client reached out to us to prune their black pine bonsai, we had no idea it was going to be this large. Once we saw it, we immediately felt honored that they selected us to work on this amazing tree.

This tree sits at the roof top of a penthouse in downtown Seattle and was installed here around 15 years ago. After getting some information from the owner, we learned it had not received a proper prune in over ten years. We gave it a much needed haircut and we think we were able to bring the beauty of this tree out.

You can see the video of this pruning on our YouTube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/ ) and also on our page.

This is from our YouTube channel and the links mentioned in the video are for YouTube and not functional on Facebook. Two years ago we posted a video of us pruning this massive 16 feet wide Japanese maple tree. You can see that video here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8YFLVlvI5o

We got a LOT of hate for it due to misinformed individuals who claimed what we were doing were wrong and terrible. Here we are, two years and several updates later, this tree is clearly growing magnificently and super healthy.

We got several comments from arborists who claim cutting 30% of the tree will kill it, removing so many leaves would starve its ability to photosynthesize, doing so many cuts would make the tree bleed and cry, and on and on and on. All these "rules" that are taught when you get your ISA arborist certification are stemmed from specific tree species that can't handle a major pruning. These rules are then applied to every single tree because it's a safe rule that can be applied to all trees.

When pruning a Japanese maple tree, we prune it in a way where a small bird can fly thru the canopy. As stated in the video, the beauty of maples is not about the density of the leaves, but the movement of the branches.

For this particular tree, Robert and Nolan spent a combined 8 hours to finish, so it would take one skilled individual approximately 16 hours to complete.

Here at Asia Pacific Gardening, we try to make bonsai easy and accessible to anyone. In this video, Robert takes one of our common large Juniper stock and transforms it into this beautiful semi-cascade juniper bonsai in a matter of minutes. It was just simple pruning and two wires and that's it.

Bonsai isn't difficult. It's just that the internet has made it seem difficult. You don't need to use complicated terminology or calculus to find the "right" angles and symmetry and/or asymmetry. At the end, if you're satisfied with the result, then you've done it right. Your job as a bonsai artist is upgrade the tree that's in front of you. It's impossible to change it into a museum quality bonsai in just one go; those trees take decades of refinement.

Robert just returned from Asia and we filmed some content of a bonsai pot factory that we've never been to before. This factory is known for antique reproduction, so the pots themselves look really old. Of course we had to place an order and it's expected to arrive sometime in September. Take a look!

Robert visited a different bonsai pot factory for the first time. T...

AI as in artificial intelligence, is terrible for the environment. AI as in Asian Intelligence, is what we use here and have been around for thousands of years.

Everything on our channel is the result of Asian Intelligence. You will NEVER see any AI (artificial intelligence) generated content on our channel nor will you see any AI generated content anywhere in our business. The rise of AI is a threat to mother nature and as bonsai artists, we should do everything we can to protect mother nature.

Keep AI out of the bonsai hobby. Get rid of chat GPT and join a bonsai club, read a book and absorb information that pertains to your climate, or better yet, take a hike thru the woods to find inspiration for your next bonsai piece. Data centers are being developed in rural areas and it's contaminating our nation's waters and wildlife. It will affect our health, raise our utility bills, contaminate our food, and straight up destroy wildlife. Say no to data centers.
