Traveling Stanzas Traveling Stanzas is a collaborative project between the Wick Poetry Center and VCD design students, alumni and faculty at Kent State University.

Traveling Stanzas is a collaborative project between Kent State University's Wick Poetry Center and the School of Visual Communication Design students, alumni and faculty. It combines the creative talents of designers with poetry by local student writers (grades 3–12), senior citizens, veterans, health care providers and professional poets. The Wick Poetry center conducts an outreach program for non-professional writers, with undergraduate and graduate English students guiding the sessions. Poems are selected by Wick Poetry Center Director David Hassler for use in each annual edition of the Stanzas. Designs are created in design sessions guided by Associate Professor of VCD, Valora Renicker. In our mission to promote awareness of poetry and graphic design within the community, we created horizontal posters for display in the interiors of northeast Ohio area buses and transit systems. Beginning in mid-December 2009, Akron METRO and Portage County PARTA systems featured these posters for riders to enjoy. For several years, RTA Cleveland also featured our posters on their trains and buses. Many of the Traveling Stanzas poster designs have been animated. Excited for our Traveling Stanzas exhibit to be at Lakewood Public Library all of March and April!

Here's a peek at Traveling Stanzas, now open through April 30 in the Main Library Second Floor Gallery. We are proud to partner with Wick Poetry Center to bring Traveling Stanzas to Lakewood. This interactive exhibit features creative writing tools, and celebrates the unique experiences of immigrants in our community.

Traveling Stanzas began as a collaboration between the Wick Poetry Center and Kent State University School of Visual Communication Design's Valora Renicker (associate professor). Ten years, later, it is a leading international poetry exhibit pioneering state-of-the-art digital tools.

Join us the next five weeks for Celebrating 10 Years of Traveling Stanzas Exhibit. The opening reception will feature remarks and a poetry reading this Thursday, Jan. 24 in Taylor Hall.
