Kent School Equestrian Team

Kent School Equestrian Team Mastering the fundamentals and nurturing a lifelong passion for riding. We have facilities that support our diverse disciplines.

Trainers: Lauren Meehan, Barbara Filipelli, Cooper Madden-Hennessey, Leslie Kogos & Peter Wylde Message from the Head Trainer:

The Kent Riding Program offers you the opportunity to develop and grow your passion and interest in riding in a co-educational setting. You have the opportunity to develop your equine skills in a variety of disciplines from the beginner to the most advanced. Kent’s riding

program offers training and expertise in equitation, jumpers, hunters, and combined training. You’ll be able to take advantage of 2 indoor and 3 outdoor rings, a grand prix field, a grass hunter field and a cross country course designed for beginner-novice through training level eventers. You have the choice to bring your own horse or to work with one of our “equine professors”. Our school horses set the standard for quality. Many have competed at the top of their discipline and offer a schoolmaster experience for their riders. Others will teach you how to ride from the beginning. When you ride at Kent you will have the best of our program and the best of your training program from home. If you come to us with an existing trainer we will work in partnership to create a program that builds on your experience and will best develop your riding skills. Kent’s training philosophy has its roots in classical horsemanship with the belief that the fundamentals must be achieved. It is not possible to create competent riders without the basics. Without straightness and forwardness and the ability to ride with a balanced seat and an independent leg, the rider will not progress. The great horsemen have mastered these fundamentals. There are no secrets, just hard work.

✨ It’s a wrap on another incredible year at KSET! ✨

This season was filled with growth, hard work, unforgettable memories, and so many rewarding moments in and out of the saddle. We are incredibly grateful to have worked with such a dedicated group of students and an outstanding team of instructors and clinicians who helped guide their development throughout the year.

A big round of applause to our graduating seniors. You’ll all be missed!

To all our returning riders, we can’t wait to do it all again. ❤️🐴

We’re just back from an amazing few days at HITS Hudson Valley — and yes, we absolutely count the full prep day on site with Head Trainer Lauren Meehan and Assistant Barn Manager Cat, too. 💪🐴

Lots of ribbons, lots of lessons, and most importantly, lots of progress across every division. We’re proud of how our riders showed up, supported one another, and kept learning every step of the way.

A special thank you to Rodrigo Pessoa for spending the day with our riders and sharing his time, expertise, and perspective across all levels of our program.

Everyone walked away with valuable lessons: be precise, find the accurate distance, and always give your best effort, even knowing that you won’t get the perfect outcome at every single fence, and that’s part of the process.

We’re so grateful for the opportunity to learn from one of the sport’s greatest.

Tomorrow! 🐎✨ Our students will have the incredible opportunity to learn from one of the sport’s very best, Rodrigo Pessoa.

If you follow us, he likely needs no introduction—but for those who may not know, Rodrigo is an 8-time Olympian, Olympic Individual Gold Medalist, World Champion, and one of the most respected names in the equestrian world.

We’re honored to welcome him to the Michael O. Page Equestrian Center, for a special clinic. Stay tuned for highlights! ✨

We’re excited to share that work officially begins this month on our indoor arena renovation 🙌

It took time to get the right plan, and the right team, in place, and now we’re ready to start work!

With New England winters, this space is at the heart of our program. What’s coming:

—Windows to bring in natural light
—Improved ventilation for warmer months
—Greater energy efficiency in the winter
—Updates to support two concurrent lessons during winter term

Stay tuned ✨

We are honored to present the Kent School Horsemanship Award to Oona W. ’26 🤍

At Kent, we believe you can be a good horseman without being a talented rider, but you CANNOT be a good rider without being a great horseman (or woman!).

All of the best riders in the world share one thing in common: they are exceptional horsemen and horsewomen first.

If there is one lesson we hope our students carry with them beyond their time here, it is horsemanship—the understanding, the feel, the horse care, holistic approach, and the unwavering commitment to the horse. That’s why we give out this trophy (which gets engraved with the recipient’s name), separately from our end-of-year awards.

Oona embodies these values in every aspect of her riding and care. We are so proud to recognize her with this award. 🐴✨
