Today marks 56 years since the tragic events that took place on May 4, 1970 on the Kent State University campus. The university remembers those four lives that were lost, the nine that were injured, and the many others whose lives were changed forever on that date in history.

Meet Adelynn Prushing, originally from Richmond, Texas, a Kent State senior fashion design major, graduating this upcoming May 2026. Adelynn is a very active student on campus and is a member of Kent State’s Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta and the Fashion Student Organization (FSO), as well as an officer for the Identity Project. Additionally, Adelynn is finishing up her Senior Honors Thesis/Project this semester on how to incorporate sustainability in fashion. Adelynn also has a website called the Knit Nerd that showcases her work and ideas.

Meet Rebecca LaGuardia, a biology major with a concentration in molecular and cellular biology, as well as a minor in chemistry. Rebecca is finishing her time at Kent State and is preparing to graduate in the upcoming weeks with the class of 2026. During her time at Kent State, Rebecca has served as the Secretary of Commuter and Off Campus Organization (COSO), President of the Pre-Optometry club, President of the Irish dance club, a Flash Fellow, and a member of Kent State’s Chapter of the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society (SAACS). Her dedication to academics and campus involvement has prepared her well for the next step—attending optometry school at Ohio State University this fall.

Sophia Macro, a fashion design major with a minor in entrepreneurship for the arts, is preparing to graduate in the upcoming weeks. During her time at Kent over the past four years, she has become an active player on the women’s rugby team and a member of Kent State’s SURVIVOR student organization, while also working for Kent State Student Media in analytics.

Meet Melissa Williams, originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and currently in her junior year at Kent State. She is pursuing a degree in zoology with a minor in psychology, while actively participating in the Kent State biology club, and is a member of the organization Paws for a Cause. Driven by her passion for working with animals, Melissa is building meaningful experiences both inside and outside the classroom.

Introducing Asadbek Masharipov, originally from Turkmenistan. He made the move to Kent State University, and is now a sophomore with a double major in international studies and communication studies. An active student of the Kent State community, he is involved in the Honors College, a member of the International Student Council, the Flash Activities Board and the PEPSI Leadership Center. While completing his degree, he is already developing goals and plans to work with embassies and international organizations across the globe.
