Do you wonder how you might have said something more clearly? Do you wish you could speak in a way that made you look professional? The Grammarian in each meeting does that in a specific way. Here’s a word of warning for you! When you hear newscasters or any speaker, you will have a new annoyance level of people who add unnecessary words that add nothing to their speech.

Meetings run long when people don’t have an idea of how much they can say in an allotted amount of time. In a Toastmasters meeting, the Timer describes the amount of time each type of speech should take and gives a speaker an alert at different stages of their speech. This helps a speaker know how much longer they have to wrap up their speech.

The Toastmaster is the person who runs the meeting. It’s usually a different person each week. They can choose a theme for the meeting and fill in the time throughout the meeting before they introduce another person to fulfill another role in the meeting. The Toastmaster can adjust their own comments to make sure the meeting ends on time.

Do you want to become a more effective leader?

Leadership is not inherent to only a few “born” leaders. It can be learned. Great leaders start by understanding themselves.

In Toastmasters, one of the early projects in the Pathways program is “Understanding Your Leadership Style”. This project helps members explore how they naturally lead, communicate, and work with others. This project has a quiz that helps you learn about your most prevalent leadership styles.

By learning about different leadership styles, members gain insight into their strengths and weaknesses and to discover ways to grow. You will also learn how to adapt your approach to better support and motivate others or team members who may not have the same style as you do.

Leadership isn’t just about being in charge—it’s about understanding people, building trust, and guiding others toward success. This project helps you take an important step on that journey to become a leader in life, at work or in your community.

Since 1924, Toastmasters International has transformed nearly eight million lives through a simple, yet powerful, mission: empowering individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.
