Janis has a good point here, if you live disingenuously, you will never know yourself. and will never to be able to fully give yourself to any one thing, so just be you! Whether its art or work, being able to bring your full self to the table is a necessary step on the path to success.

You will always be better than pretending to be something else!

School of Rock Kent is closed September 7th for Labor Day. We do not provide make up lessons for the few holidays that we close for. It is important for us to allow our staff to have time to spend with their families and helps us keep the absolute best teachers around for our students. Thanks and enjoy the holiday weekend!

Last week to enroll In our Fall Season!

At School of Rock, we take students from the lesson room to the stage! Our programs combine personalized weekly private lessons with band rehearsals to turn music theory into real world performance experience.

Our themes for this coming Fall Season are; A History Of The Beatles, Best of The 2010s and Classic Hard Rock. And then our adult band is doing Pop Punk & Emo. This season will run from October-January.

Soundcheck is not a rehearsal, and it is definitely not a jam session. It is your single opportunity to set up a clean stage mix, dial in your tone, and build a working relationship with the sound engineer before the show starts.

Here are 3 essential soundcheck procedures every musician should follow:

1. Play at your real performance volume.
Noodling or playing softly while the sound engineer sets your levels guarantees your mix will be off during the set. When the adrenaline kicks in and you hit your instruments harder during the actual show, you will overwhelm the front-of-house mix. Play with the exact dynamics and volume you plan to use during the gig.

2. Maintain complete silence when it is not your turn.
The fastest way to waste time and frustrate a sound tech is playing guitar riffs or tapping drums while they are trying to isolate someone else's mic. When the engineer is dialing in another band member, keep your instrument completely quiet.

3. Focus on your stage monitor, not the front of house.
Your job during soundcheck is to make sure you can hear what you need on stage to play accurately. Trust the sound engineer to handle how the room sounds. When asking for adjustments, give specific feedback like "more lead vocal in my monitor" rather than vague statements like "it sounds weird."

A clean, efficient soundcheck sets the foundation for a great set. Respect the crew, respect the time, and save the full energy for when the house lights go down.

Jimi is right, some of the most powerful statements in history were fueled by music. Like Jimi's own National Anthem Performance at Woodstock 1969! Music is not only a way to share how you feel, but it also connects beyond the defensive walls we put up when faced with something uncomfortable. Music has that unique ability to pull on our empathy.

That is the foundation for our Protest Rock show coming up at the end of September. Our students at School of Rock Kent are tackling anthems that challenged the status quo and gave people a voice when they needed it most.
