At Buffalo Middle School, we believe preparing students for the future goes beyond the classroom, and our families and community members are an important part of making that happen!

This fall, our students will participate in two hands-on, real-world learning experiences, and we need volunteers to help make them a success:

💰 Reality Store Program
📅 Thursday, September 17
⏰ 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Seventh grade students will experience a financial simulation where they are given a career, income, and family situation and must make real-life decisions about housing, transportation, groceries, insurance, child care, entertainment, utilities, and more. Volunteers will help staff the different stations and guide students through their decisions.

📅 Thursday, November 5
⏰ 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Get a Life launches students into the future as high school graduates with full-time jobs, monthly incomes, and real-world expenses. Students travel through stations where they make decisions about homes, cars, food, and other needs and wants all while trying to balance their budgets! They’ll even have the opportunity to “Level Up” by attending college or trade school and see firsthand how additional education can impact their career opportunities and income. Volunteers help staff the stations, guide students through their purchases, and bring a valuable real-world perspective to the experience.

Parents, grandparents, family members, local businesses, organizations, and community members are all invited to volunteer! You don't need any special experience, just a willingness to spend a morning encouraging and supporting our students. ❤️

📣 Benchmark Testing Update for Families 📚✏️

Our students have been working hard! STAR Reading and Math testing was completed this week and Fall Benchmark Testing will take place next week.

Benchmark assessments give our teachers valuable information about each student’s current academic progress and help us identify strengths, areas for growth, and ways we can provide additional support through classroom instruction and interventions.

📄 STAR Reading & Math Results
Students who scored in the 25th percentile or lower on STAR Reading and/or Math will bring home a form next week. This form will explain your child’s results and the interventions and supports being provided in the classroom.

If you would like to meet with your child’s teachers to discuss the results or interventions further, please complete the meeting request portion at the bottom of the form and return it to school.

📝 Fall Benchmark Testing – Next Week
Please help your child do their best by making sure they:

⏰ Arrive on time
😴 Get a good night’s sleep
💪 Come ready to give their best effort

Band Families: Music & Arts will be at school next Wednesday, the 26th from 4-6 pm. Students can pick instruments, and families can ask questions about band & will get more information about renting an instrument.
