KUSD Elementary Bands KUSD Bands has a long and rich history of musical excellence. Each year we help nearly 1500 students to flourish as band musicians.

Students begin in the 5th grade and this page is devoted to showcasing the achievements of these youngest band members.

If your child tried the band instruments and chose theirs in the Spring, make sure you have secured an instrument! The best option is to rent one from a local music store.
Rentals will be delivered directly to the schools.
They will also need the book “Traditions of Excellence” for their chosen instrument and a music stand to practice with. The store you have rented from should have those as well.
In the first week or so of school your child’s band director will notify students as to which day of the week their lessons will be. Lessons are 30 min, once a week, at school and will begin the week of September 14.
We cannot wait to get started!

Caroline is a shining example of consistency and perseverance. Whenever she faced a challenge, she never gave up and always set the bar higher for herself! Her confidence has grown throughout the year, and plays with beautiful, resonant tone!

Bea played a concert this morning at Whittier Elementary School and then promptly followed it by slaying her last 3 exercises to earn the coveted Black 🖤 Belt! Congratulations Band 🥷 Ninja! Your consistency and tenacity has paid off! Fun fact. Bea wasn’t going to join band. Mrs Kruse knew her parents and contacted them to get her to try it! (Way to go Mom & Dad!)
If you have a 4th grader who isn’t considering it, give them a nudge! You never know, they might just end up to be an amazing trombonist and Black Belt in band, like Bea!!

We’ve got ourselves another Band Ninja! Jeremiah from Grewenow has worked very hard all year on the Baritone! Not only does he play with a beautiful tone, he reads music extremely well! Great work Jeremiah! I can’t wait to see you continue to grow on that instrument in middle school!
