No one is claiming KUSD has unlimited money. However, when a district accumulates $34 million above its required reserve, ends most years with a surplus, and maintains one of the lowest average teacher salaries in CESA 1, it is difficult to accept the claim that cost-of-living adjustments are impossible. Financial decisions reflect priorities, and educators should not be expected to absorb the rising cost of living while reserves continue to grow.

Educator Appreciation Week begins today! Let’s show our dedicated educators how much we appreciate them by transforming appreciation into action. That means respect, fair wages, and a voice at the table when decisions about our schools and students’ futures are made.

💙 Support collective bargaining rights in your state. Educators earn more—24% more, on average—where they have strong unions and the freedom to bargain collectively.
💙 Vote for pro-public education candidates for your school board, state house, and U.S. Congress.
💙 Speak up for educators at school board meetings. Ensure their voices and needs are heard by local leaders who decide funding, salaries, benefits, class sizes, and more.
