On May 13, our Japanese senior students presented their graduation theses and capstone projects in the Japanese Program.
The presentations reflected not only strong academic research, but also deep personal reflection and cross-cultural understanding.

At today’s Celebration of Scholars, Japanese major senior Aiden Farkas presented his senior project, “Reflecting My Understanding of Japanese Author Natsume Soseki.”
Inspired by Natsume Soseki and Kokoro, he explored themes of loneliness and modern isolation, and created an original short story in Japanese.
Congratulations to Aiden on an excellent presentation and achievement!

On February 28, Mr. Yuya Murata, Consul and Director of the Japan Information Center (JIC) at the Consulate-General of Japan in Chicago, visited the Carthage campus and met with Dr. Yan Wang, professor of the Japanese program in the Department of Modern Languages.

During their meeting, Mr. Murata and Dr. Wang exchanged valuable information about the program’s development and student achievements. Mr. Murata spoke highly of the program’s accomplishments and expressed his willingness to continue supporting the Carthage Japanese program in any way possible in the future. We are truly honored by his visit and support!

On February 28, seven Carthage students participated in the Japanese Speech Contest hosted by the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
In the Intermediate College Division, Owen Powers earned first place, Brody Dean took second place, and Joe Redmond received third place.
Congratulations to all of our students for their hard work and impressive accomplishments! Special thanks to the Japanese TLEs, Yui Nakamura and Tomomi Tagashira, for their dedication in preparing the students and supporting their success.
