It's that semester again, I'm teaching anthropological theory! One of the activities is to write 3 blog posts applying theory to something they like, observe, participate in ... their own lives. It's at https://anthrotheorylearning.wordpress.com/ if you are interested. Comment if you'd like, but be kind, as these are undergraduate beginners!

How do I know the semester has truly begun? I'm grading the first essays. Only 35 submitted so far, but if all students do their work, it will be FIFTY. I have students write SIX papers throughout the semester as that is the only way to learn how to write.

Whew - all of my four courses this semester are now published on Canvas. There's a bit of tweaking I need to do on one, but by and large the Canvas 'change the dates' function worked really well this time!

Let's talk about classes for Fall 2024! There's Anthropology of Language (ANTH 312). We ask "how is communication possible? what does it do? what is this thing called language?" M/W, 3:30 pm. (More serious announcements coming later! I just like this Pulp-O-Mizer generator.)

Following up on my previous post, I want to shout out to the students who really learn. If they do the work, I see amazing increase in their capacities to make sense of new material, summarize it, analyze it, and communicate it. Which, BTW, are the soft skills they will need the rest of their professional lives! Yay to my students. YAY to the support staff who help me get services for students. YAY for student success!

Another great class offered on climate change! This is part of the new Certificate in Adaptations to Climate Change. You can declare that certificate this coming Fall 2022! Show future employers that you've got training in this fundamental problem of our future!

Learn about the incredibly different ways that people make a living and exchange/trade. It's all so different from the industrial market-based state we are part of! It's so fun to think about different ways that humans CAN live in the world. Fulfills several Options Electives for INTS degree. (The picture is from a Parkside Study Abroad trip to Cambodia.) (ANTH 357) Contact Kate Gillogly for more information!
