When a child has been impacted by sexually explicit content, knowing what happened is only the beginning.

The next question is: How do we help them heal?

The Heal Young Minds Conference is a live virtual training designed for the professionals on the front lines (mental health professionals, school counselors, educators, social workers, child advocates, pediatric professionals, and others who work with children and adolescents).

On November 13, experts from multiple fields will explore how exposure to sexualized content can affect developing brains, behavior, and relationships. We will provide practical, evidence-based approaches for recognizing signs of trauma, identifying problematic sexual behaviors, and supporting healing and resilience.

✨ 6.25 CE hours available
💻 Live virtual conference
📅 November 13, 2026
💲 Early-bird registration: $99 through October 31

If you work with kids, this training can give you tools to better recognize what may be happening beneath the surface, and respond with knowledge, compassion, and effective intervention.

You can put filters on your kids’ devices. 🔒 You can use parental controls. You can set boundaries around what they can access. 📱

But eventually, they’re going to be somewhere you can’t control. At a friend’s house, on someone else’s device, or simply out in the world.

That’s why we want to help our kids build an internal filter when it comes to p**nography. We want them to know what it is, understand why it’s not healthy for them, and feel confident saying no when they encounter it.

This quote from Dr. Justin Coulson during his interview with Kristen Jenson on the Happy Families Podcast really stuck with us:

“You can fence your swimming pool, but you cannot fence the ocean.”

External filters are important. We absolutely want parents to use them. But they can’t be the whole plan.

Our kids need to know what to do when the fence isn’t there.

Every school handles tech a little differently. But that doesn’t mean parents have to sit back and hope their kids are protected.

You don’t need to be a tech expert to ask good questions or advocate for your child. You just need to know what to ask and be willing to start the conversation.

📱Swipe through for 10 tech safety topics to bring to your child’s school this year.

And if you’re getting ready for the school year, we have something else to help.

Body safety isn’t a “one and done” conversation. It’s something we build with our kids over time.

When kids learn early that their body belongs to them (that they get to decide who touches them, sees them, or has access to them) they carry that understanding with them as they grow.

📱 And later, when phones, DMs, and social pressure enter the picture, those same lessons can become digital boundaries.

They know their “no” matters. They know they don’t owe anyone access to their body, whether it’s in person or through a screen.

That’s what we want for our kids: the confidence to recognize pressure and say, “No, I’m not sending that,” without feeling like they need to explain themselves or make the other person happy.

The conversations we have about body safety today can give our kids tools they’ll use online tomorrow. 💙

Like many parents, Summer thought she had locked down her son’s iPhone. 📵 No internet. No App Store. But he still found a way in.

🚪 A back door through apps.
🤫 Hidden struggles with p**n.
💔 Years of silent battles.

She did everything she could, but iPhones weren’t built with child safety in mind. Unfortunately, we can't just wait for tech companies or legislation to better protect our kids. The only foolproof filter is an internal one, or an inner desire to protect their growing brain! Start the conversation with our books, "Good Pictures Bad Pictures."

New backpack? Check. New shoes? Check. Devices actually ready for the school year? Let’s fix that. 🎒

Between school-issued laptops, hand-me-down phones, and everything in between, it’s easy for device safety to get pushed to the bottom of the back-to-school list.

That’s why we teamed up with Family Tech to create one simple checklist covering it all: school devices, personal devices, and the household rules that apply to everyone.

But settings are only part of the picture. Settings can help protect the device. Conversations help prepare your kid.

We also included a simple plan your child can practice ahead of time, so they know what to do if they come across something online that makes them uncomfortable or catches them off guard.

Add it to your back-to-school prep list, right alongside the school supplies and first-day outfits.

Here's the uncomfortable truth about kid tech: the "safe" choice you made last year might not be safe today. 👀

A lot of parenting-and-tech advice gets written once and never updated, but the tech itself doesn't sit still. A watch that was "safe" a year ago might have new features, new risks, or a backend nobody ever mentioned in the reviews. 🔍

You don't have to catch every story like this one. That's kind of what we're here for. But if something on your kid's wrist (or in their pocket) has been sitting untouched since you set it up, it might be worth a second look this week.

The days of having just one “big talk” with your child are behind us.

Instead, think of it as a series of conversations that grow alongside your child.

One simple way to open the door:

💡 Ask: “When (not if) was the last time you saw something online that made you uncomfortable?”

Then follow up by sharing your own experiences with unexpected exposure. (Like a surprising pop-up, a movie trailer, or a magazine cover at the grocery store.)

When kids know they won’t be punished or shamed for what they see, they’re more likely to come to you when they need help.

Small conversations today can build trust that lasts for years. 💙
