Watercolor Classes in Kennewick, WA

🎨 Did you know? Masking fluid is a watercolor artist's secret weapon. It preserves the white of your paper, so you can paint over it and still keep those bright, snowy highlights. We're talking about masking in watercolor and painting a cozy hideaway in our January classes. See you there.

Look who's fancy & has a Google Page now 🙋‍♀️

I'm trying to find photos to add, but I always forget to take them. If anyone has any from our previous classes, I'd love to have them.

Also, class registration for Splashy Pumpkins opens tomorrow morning.

Happy Painting!

Help! Did I lend these to someone? The last time I used them was for my classes in August of 2023. I just assumed they were tucked in a box, but I recently went through EVERYTHING in the process of moving to my new craft room & they're not here. They're smaller than typical cutting mats; only 7"x9" & yes, there's a light green one in the middle of a stack of dark green ones like the pic shows.

🍂 Let’s Paint Some Fall Trees! 🍂
Ever wanted to try negative painting? It's a tricky technique, but don’t worry—we’ll take it slow! In this class, we’ll start with the basics and use templates to help us along the way. We’ll be painting some colorful fall trees, and I think you might actually find it calming. You can do this! I promise! 🎨✨

More stuff from the workshop. Making something that's truly ugly is much harder than you might think.

Lessons learned:
*I don't hate Alizarin Crimson after all
*I can trust my own taste. I KNOW what I like when I see it & I like a much wider range of things than I realized.
*Art rules are made to be broken
*No time painting is wasted, even if the results are terrible. I learned more & had more fun from 3 paintings of trying to fail than in the last 100 trying not to.
*fear of failure is the real enemy
*at any given point in a painting there are multiple right next choices. I don't have to be afraid of choosing the wrong one.
*I like big shapes more than linework

Art friends, there's a free week long workshop with one of my favorite instructors & so far it's super great!
You can still sign up

Louise is an abstract acrylic artist & this course is about learning how to let go of expectations & enjoy creating. This is my first go at the first assignment. It's not supposed to look good. It's not about the product. I learned some things & was able to let go more than usual. So it was a success. Bonus: there are a few sections that I actually really like & can use the ideas for future paintings.

Hate is a strong word, but I think I hate the word talent. Yes, some people are born naturally gifted. But, most just put in a lot of work. Using the word talent makes a novice feel like they will never achieve & makes the proficient feel like her/his hard work is overlooked. If you want to make something. You CAN do it! You'll just probably start off by being bad at it. Be brave. Go be bad at something new today.

Can you spot the places in this painting that I messed up and then fixed? This month, we’re embracing our watercolor mishaps!

Brick by brick, we'll build something amazing in our May watercolor classes! That was even too corny for me... anyway, come paint bricks. It will be fun.

If anyone has a better title for this class, I'm all ears!!! We're talking about ways to cultivate a regular practice of making art. That's a mouthful & it doesn't even really capture the concept. Like when you want to make art but never seem to do it... Or you don't know what to paint once you sit down... Or you are painting but don't see improvement... We'll include practical warm-up/ice-breaker type exercises to get started when you sit down to paint, some repetitive exercises to try that help hone skill & increase confidence, and some discussion about our mindset, which is (spoiler) often the main problem. So, what the heck do I call this class?!? "Making art regularly" makes me want to take a nap, but it's the only short title I can think of that fits on promo stuff. Anyway, the class is much better prepared than the title, so come if you want to start figuring out how you can make art more regularly.
