The Prevention staff will be attending several local markets and festivals this summer! We will be at the first Wednesday market on June 4th, where we will provide information about ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and resilience. Also, fun art activities will be available for kids. 🙂

Hi everyone! I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Nicki McTrusty, and I'm stepping in as Prevention Coordinator for my esteemed colleague Renee Lipps. I am very fortunate to have learned so much from Renee over the years while working at LeeShore. Though I'll will never be able to fill the huge shoes she left, I can only strive to continue the amazing work she started in prevention efforts to keep our kids and community safe. 💜

Unity is about putting into action a “community building mindset” based on inclusion, equity, and valuing our community asset – human capital. Unity gives courage. ... We need to stand together because unity not only gives us power, strength, and courage but it is also needed and very important for our survival. We have all heard the saying together we stand, divided we fall. Let’s come together and unite and support change for the better!! Unite with us in October to: mourn those who have lost their lives because of domestic violence, celebrate those who have survived, and connect those in need, to the resources and support they need.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month Help Raise Awareness!
Raising awareness involves efforts to increase knowledge or reshape social norms or false perceptions about intimate partner violence (IPV). Preventing IPV involves proactive efforts to stop violence and abuse from happening in the first place by interrupting the social rules, norms, and constructs that support it. When equipped with a heightened level of awareness and understanding of the concrete actions necessary to get there, social change can occur. This transformation becomes possible when individuals, families, communities, and institutions have access to both knowledge and tools and unite to create change.

Today October 1st kicks of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). We want to use this month as an opportunity to raise awareness about the warning signs of domestic violence, the prevalence of this public health issue in our State, how it is connected to many of the other challenges we face as a community, make sure victims and survivors know there is support and resources for them, and last but not least is how we can unite as a community to create safety for all!
