We’re hiring ✈️

Kenai Aviation Training Academy is looking for passionate, professional CFIs to join our team — with preference given to CFIIs and MEIs.

Based in beautiful Kenai, we train pilots in one of the most dynamic flying environments in the country. From coastal weather systems to real-world crosswind experience, our instructors don’t just log hours — they build confident, capable aviators.

What we’re looking for:

• CFI (required)
• CFII and/or MEI (preferred)
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude
• Safety-first mindset
• Ability to mentor and support students from Private through advanced ratings

Why instruct with us?

• Diverse training opportunities (instrument & multi-engine growth encouraged)
• Supportive team environment
• Opportunity to build high-quality time in Alaska flying conditions

If you’re ready to grow as an instructor while helping shape the next generation of pilots, we’d love to connect.

✈️ Instrument Rating in Alaska: Part 141 vs. Part 61 ❄️🌫️

In Alaska, an Instrument Rating isn’t just a rating—it’s a safety tool. Between rapidly changing weather, coastal fog, mountain obscuration, and short daylight seasons, instrument proficiency matters. Here’s how Part 141 and Part 61 instrument training compare with Alaska flying in mind 👇

🗂 Part 141 Instrument Training
• FAA-approved, structured syllabus with clear milestones
• Minimum 35 hours of instrument training
• Built-in stage checks to ensure proficiency before moving on
• Strong emphasis on procedures, checklists, and decision-making
• Great for students training full-time
No prior cross country requirement, just a PPL!

🧭 Part 61 Instrument Training (Alaska Edition)
• Highly flexible and tailored to real-world Alaska flying
• Minimum 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time.
• Ideal for working pilots, bush pilots-in-training, or those flying seasonally.
• Ideal for high-time pilots.

🌫️ Instrument Training in Alaska Means Learning:
• How to safely transition from VFR to IFR when weather closes in
• Decision-making in remote areas with limited alternates
• Precision and non-precision approaches into smaller airports
• Respecting weather—not pushing it

✨ The bottom line:
Both Part 141 and Part 61 earn you the same FAA Instrument Rating, but in Alaska, the real value is confidence in the system when the weather turns. The best path is the one that prepares you for real Alaska flying.

✈️ Part 141 vs. Part 61: What’s the Difference? ✈️

Thinking about becoming a private pilot but not sure which training path is right for you? Here’s a simple breakdown 👇

🗂 Part 141 Flight Training
• Structured, FAA-approved syllabus
• Fixed lesson plans and stage checks
• Often associated with flight schools and academies
• Great for students who thrive on structure and consistency
• Can be ideal if you plan to pursue aviation professionally

🧭 Part 61 Flight Training
• Flexible, instructor-led training
• Lessons tailored to your schedule and learning pace
• Perfect for working professionals or part-time students
• More customizable and relaxed timeline
• Ideal if you want training to fit around life

✨ The bottom line:
Both paths lead to the same Private Pilot Certificate. The best choice depends on your schedule, learning style, and aviation goals—not which one is “better.”
