Depends on what the person is looking for. Yes kata is extreamly important. But if your doing a non ranking mma then by all means. I have 7 black belts , have studied 9 arts over 44 years and i dont teach kata. Only to my son because he needs the form discipline. My other students are executives, executive security, school teachers, merchant mariners that travel overseas and specific womens self defese, I work with them on close quarters hand to hand both in dojo and in there actual work environments ie. ship board, classrooms ect. and conventional and non convential weapons. So to answer your question can you teach karate , tea kwon do ect. Without kata or pumse. No

instructor sempi Victor "warrior" Rivera has been studying martial arts since he was 2 years old. His father a retired navy seal and 4th degree black belt in shoto kan , and sambo practitioner started young victors training when he could walk.
victor holds 4th degree black belt in shoto kan, 3rd degree black belts in tae kwon do and hapkido, trained and Faught muay tai for 15 years as well as full contact karate and Olympic style tae kwon do.
he at 5 years old was fighting full contact tournaments and continued his practices. at 14 was awarded a spot on the jr. us karate team where he Faught in soul Korea, Nuremburg Germany, British Columbia, Mexico and nova scotia being ranked 3rd in north America and 6th in the world.
in 1997 he won the up state internationals in Niagara falls Canada with the fastest ko 1-100th of a second front kick to the jaw of his opponent and secured a spot on the us tae kwon do Olympic team for the 2,000 Olympics unfortunately due to a motorcycle accident he lost his spot due to his injuries.
as a teen he was an extra in several movies such as the first and second teenage mutant ninja turtles , soldier of fortune inc, and made afew appearances on walker texas ranger.

sempai Rivera retired from competition in 2010 at the age of 35 years old. now he trains his son and developed this course to teach those that are at risk in the marine industry
