Augustine School has been serving the people of Kelso and surrounding areas for over 100 years. This began with the founding of the School in 1877, under the direction of Miss Elizabeth Lindermann. The school building was used for two years, when students were transferred behind the church to a two room frame building. In 1878, the current church was built, leaving the old church building to be us
ed as a school. At the turn of the century, on September 26, 1900, it was decided in a parish meeting to build a new school and convent. In the fall of 1934, the school was opened as a public school. It continued as a public school until August 27, 1953, when it was changed from public to parochial. In 1973, plans were made for our current school to replace the two-story school that was built in the early 1900’s. The new school was built in 1974 with six classrooms, teachers’ workroom, office, library, cafeteria, kitchen, and gymnasium. Presently, this school has been renovated to contain nine classrooms with smart boards and student computers in each. The school also uses the Ruma Center which was the former convent. It houses a computer lab and a music and art classroom. Augustine School has 157 students. The school is fully accredited through the Missouri Nonpublic School Accrediting Association. Besides the core subjects, our curriculum includes computer class, art, music, Spanish, and Accelerated Reader. Students have the opportunity to participate in many service projects throughout the year including First Friday collections, and a 5K Run for Relay for Life. Extra curricular activities consists of Student Council, Alter Server, Safety Patrol, Choir and the sports of volleyball, boys and girls basketball, and cheerleading.
