With school starting in a few weeks, I need to remind parents who have students going into a beginning orchestra class next year. Please do not buy one of those cheap violins on ebay that come in a variety of colors like purple, red, black, orange, etc. They are horrible instruments that sound terrible and fall apart easily. Go to a reputable music instrument store and rent an instrument. They will make sure that the instrument is the right size for your student and they have much better instruments. Because there are not many actual string specialists teaching orchestra classes anymore due to school budget cuts ( many are band specialists who aren't trained as well as a string specialist in orchestra instruments), you might consider getting private lessons from a specialist. I have already worked with two band specialists to help them teach an orchestra class. One did an exceptional job, the other quit after 3 lessons.

As of now I only have 3 half-hour openings in my teaching schedule left. If those fill up I will have to let my student who is on hiatus that I can no longer hold her time slot for her. She's been gone for 3 months.
