Welcome Back to Kellogg Middle School

Dear Kellogg Middle School Families,

Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer and is ready for a great school year. We are excited to welcome our students back to Kellogg Middle School and look forward to another year of learning, growth, and opportunities for our students.

As we begin the new school year, I would like to welcome several new teachers to our KMS staff:
Deanne Fitzgerald will be joining us as our 7th Grade Science teacher.
Eric Wickham will be joining us as our Physical Education teacher.
Grace Shorey will be joining us as our 7th and 8th Grade Math teacher.
We are excited to have Deanne, Eric, and Grace join the Wildcat family and look forward to the contributions they will make to our students and school community.

What is WIN?

Families will notice a new class on every student’s schedule this year called WIN, which stands for “What I Need.” Every student at Kellogg Middle School will participate in a WIN class.

One of our major areas of focus this year is making sure we are providing students with the academic support they need to be successful. Students enter the classroom with different strengths and different areas where they need additional instruction. WIN gives us dedicated time during the school day to respond to those individual needs.

During WIN, we will use student achievement data and classroom performance to identify specific skills students need to strengthen. Students who need additional support in an academic area will receive targeted intervention and additional instruction, while students who have demonstrated mastery will have opportunities to practice, extend, and apply their learning.

WIN is not intended to be a study hall or simply additional homework time. It is a structured instructional period designed to ensure that we are intentionally addressing student academic needs. Student needs change throughout the year, so we will regularly review student progress and adjust WIN instruction based on what our data tells us students need.

We believe strongly that effective intervention should happen before students fall further behind. By building intervention time directly into the school day and including every student, we can provide support without requiring students to miss their regular classes or electives.

Our goal is simple: meet students where they are, provide them with what they need, and help every student make meaningful academic growth.

We are excited about the opportunities ahead this year. Middle school is an important time for students academically and socially, and our staff is committed to creating a school where students feel supported, challenged, and connected.

Thank you for trusting us with your children and for your continued partnership with Kellogg Middle School. We look forward to welcoming our Wildcats back and having a successful school year together.

Go Wildcats!

Sincerely,
Brad Harmon
Principal
