Congratulations to Keene High School science teacher Monica Foley, recipient of the 27th Outstanding Educator Award presented by the KHS Alumni Fund!

Established by the Keene High School Class of 1950 and administered by the KHS Alumni Fund, the Outstanding Educator Award annually recognizes one teacher or staff member who has made an exceptional impact on students. Recipients are selected through a nomination process that includes students, faculty, staff, and support personnel.

Ms. Foley is known for creating an engaging, supportive classroom where students are challenged to think critically, explore science through hands-on learning, and believe in their own potential. Her passion for teaching and genuine care for her students were reflected throughout this year's nominations.

Students shared comments such as:
• "She believes in all of her students and builds them up when they don't feel like they will succeed."
• "Her Anatomy and Physiology class made me realize I wanted to study nursing. She is patient, knowledgeable, and inspiring."
• "She goes the extra mile for her students and makes learning fun and engaging."

Congratulations, Ms. Foley, on this well-deserved honor. Thank you for your dedication to Keene High School and for inspiring students every day! Ms. Foley is shown here with Andrew Bohannon, representing KHS Alumni Fund.

Keene High School is proud to celebrate our student, Andrew "Drew" Downing for his outstanding accomplishments through the American Legion Boys State and Boys Nation programs.

Earlier this summer, Drew attended the American Legion New Hampshire Boys State program at St. Anselm’s College, joining 44 juniors from high schools across the state for an immersive week of civic leadership. Participants campaigned for elected positions, debated and passed legislation, developed and adopted a state budget, and gained firsthand experience with New Hampshire’s political process.

During the program, Drew was elected selectman for his "town," appointed to its budget committee, and served as minority leader of the senate. He also earned one of only three American Legion Boys State Scholarships, receiving a $1,000 award that can be applied toward the college of his choice. Congratulations to Drew on this well-deserved recognition.

At the conclusion of Boys State, students and staff nominated 10 candidates for the opportunity to attend Boys Nation. Following several rounds of interviews and careful consideration, Drew was selected as one of just two New Hampshire delegates.

In July, Drew and Milo Cocola of Bow High School represented New Hampshire at Boys Nation in Washington, D.C. The prestigious national program brings together 100 rising seniors; two from each state; to learn about the workings of the federal government through a hands-on leadership experience.

Thank you to everyone who supported Drew throughout the Boys State application process. We are grateful for the encouragement of our school and local American Legion communities. Drew has embraced this opportunity with enthusiasm, and we know he will continue to represent KHS and the State of New Hampshire with distinction!
