We Are the Music Makers is a new Choral Music Documentary celebrating the art of choral music, choral conducting and the career of one of its modern-day pioneers, Dr. Jerry Blackstone.

The film is not yet released, however, the filmmakers have provided an edited portion of it for Choral educators to access at this time. Follow the link for an 18-minute excerpt from the film that will educate and inspire reflection and ideas about the place and purpose of Choral Music and Choral Education in our ever-changing society.

Hello all!

ACDA would like to invite you all to our second S.I.N.G. Series Presentation on Thursday, February 27th in room 118 at 8pm! This presentation is entitled The Physical and Psychological Considerations of Chest Binding in the Classroom and will be presented by vocal performance major, Lucas Mendelsohn.

Lucas says, "The presentation will focus on chest binding, the purposeful compression of breast tissue in order to create a “flat-appearing” chest, and its impact on pedagogical singing. Individuals identifying in the transgender and related communities can use chest binding to help support gender identity, gender expression, and promote positive mental health practices. Considering chest binding while training pedagogical singers requires many types of physical and communicative practices to create safe and welcoming spaces in classrooms as well as developing healthy behavioral patterns. The knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community and chest binding may positively affect the mental and emotional development of students during the creation of inclusive space in any setting. Physical and vocal exercises will be modeled that can be implemented by singers or music educators. Attendees will be invited to participate in pedagogical singing and physical exercises".

As always, this is worth one workshop credit and snacks will be provided by the chapter!

Hope to see many tonight!

Hello all!

On behalf of ACDA, I invite you to come to our first SING Series Presentation of the semester TONIGHT Wednesday 02/19 at 8:00 pm in Room 118. This has been put together by first-year music performance major, Andrew Szmauz. He has titled his lecture Experimental Expressionism in Music. Andrew says, "In this presentation, we will take a look at shifting the view of polyphonic and monophonic instruments from tonal harmony to atonal percussive harmony. Music is a limitless form of expression. This presentation is designed to show how limitless the possibilities of your instrument can be when you stop looking at it from a point of 12-tone harmony, and begin to look at it from a point of limitless possibilities through semi tonal harmony, atonal percussive harmony, and digital tape loops". Andrew has requested if attendees would bring any random object that makes cool or interesting sounds like empty water bottles, chip bags, straws, paper, etc...

We encourage anyone to attend who wants to explore music-making whether you be a music major or not! Snacks and drinks will be provided as always! I hope to see many of you there!
