Happy 6 year birthday to Mandy’s School of Music!!!
I’ve been reflecting on the last 6 years because I never dreamed that my studio would become what it is now-and it is still evolving all the time.
I opened the studio May 1, 2020-the craziest time to start a business. Covid just started, teachers were learning how to quickly flip to teaching online, and I just wanted to keep the music students I had at the time (there were 7 of them). I sat in my living room designing a logo, deciding on my business philosophy, and learning how to build a website. I spent the summer setting up the room and then I began welcoming in person students in September of 2020. The studio slowly grew while I still taught in the classroom full time, I would come home and teach music lessons at night and on the weekends.
Fast forward a few years…I find out that I’m pregnant with our second baby!! I couldn’t believe it! My son was born in 2022. All of a sudden I’m doing tons of work and taking care of a baby too…time for something to give. So, it was hard and terrifying, but I quit my job and focused on building the studio while also staying home with my son and homeschooling my older child. Whew!!! Those years were a blur! But I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
I now proudly have 45-50 students at a time. I counted-in the last 6 years, we have done 18 recitals! 3 video recitals early on, 8 at Connection Church, 4 at Salem United Methodist Church, and 3 at Zion Lutheran Church! We’ve done 4 Open Mic Nights at Salem! And we took a group of musicians to Fahrney-Keedy senior living last summer to play for residents.
I decided to show you some outside studio pics because I’m continuing to work on the outside…I painted the door yesterday and got a new bench to replace some broken (very well-used) chairs. I’m going to change the signage soon to make the studio more eye-catching.
I wanted to do this long post because all of this seemed like a crazy idea 6 years ago, and it has turned into something beautiful and amazing. I am honored to do what I love every single day! Thanks to all the families I work with who make it possible!! ❤️ and cheers to many more years!
