Mark your calendars! The 59th Annual NUSS Undergraduate Academic Student Conference is on November 6th, 2026, at UNK!

What is NUSS, and who can participate? As Scheuble and Harper (1991:74) note, “NUSS grew out of conversations initiated in 1966 by Father Clement Schneider, S.J., of Creighton University, with sociologists in the Omaha area. The first symposium was held at Creighton in 1967.” What began as a small conversation has grown into a long-standing tradition of supporting undergraduate scholarship. Now in its 59th year, NUSS continues to honor the important and thoughtful work that undergraduate students produce.

Participation is open to undergraduate sociology students studying in Nebraska, and we warmly welcome students from neighboring states who would like to contribute to the conversation and share their work with the broader sociological community.

The Department of Sociology and the Women's and Gender Studies minor are proud to host the SALT Quintet as they present "A Mosaic of Mothers".

This amazing event is free and open to the public!
A Mosaic of Mothers is a concert of micro-operas that amplify Midwestern women’s experiences from the late 19th century to the present, suggesting lessons for current generations. The program explores some of the challenges of prairie survival, sisterhood, motherhood, and the joys of simpler times, as told through journals, letters, and family histories.

SALT brings staged choral works and a piano solo that uplifts the strength and endurance of women through the lens of their family experiences. Performed by the SALT Quintet: Young Kim, pianist, Suna Gunther, Jennifer Townsley, and Sylvia Stoner, sopranos, and Sharon Campbell, mezzo-soprano, and a student quartet.

Join us on March 6th, 2026, in the UNK Fine Arts Building at 5:15 PM. Bring your mother, bring your sister, bring your daughter, or your best pal--you won't want to miss this performance!

We’re thrilled to announce that the Period Poverty Project is now entering its 5th semester! Thanks to the incredible generosity of donations, Access Period of Omaha, and the dedication of our amazing student volunteers, we’ve been able to supply nearly 9,000 products to our campus community.
