We love seeing this. Shout out to Stanton Fire and Rescue and EMT Captain Colleen Butterfield for stepping up and serving their community.
đźš‘ Meet the Crew: Colleen Butterfield, EMT Captain
Colleen has proudly served as a member of Stanton Fire & Rescue since 2003. For her, serving the community is deeply personal.
“I joined the department because I wanted to help my community. Stanton is the only home I’ve ever known, and I often have the opportunity to comfort and care for people I’ve known for years—teachers, neighbors and even relatives.”
Colleen’s heroes are the people who serve quietly and selflessly behind the scenes. She admires those who help and support others without seeking recognition or praise.
Service also runs in her family. Her father was a volunteer firefighter for many years, her brother-in-law serves as a medic with Stanton, and her son has shown an interest in helping others as well.
Her advice to fellow EMTs is simple but important: Trust your team and lean on one another.
“Choosing to serve in this capacity can be stressful, emotional and draining—but it is also rewarding, humbling and inspiring.”
Colleen believes she was as prepared as possible before responding to her first call, thanks to the support of her instructors and teammates. However, she quickly learned that not everything can be taught in a classroom.
“My instructors and teammates gave me every resource I needed. Some things simply have to be learned through experience.”
Thank you, Colleen, for more than two decades of leadership, compassion and dedication to Stanton Fire & Rescue and the community you have always called home! ❤️🚒
