🎉 Congratulations to UNK alumna Sunanda Rajput — the FIRST UNK student ever to receive the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools/ProQuest Distinguished Master's Thesis Award in biological and life sciences!

An international student from India, Sunanda earned her master's degree in biology at UNK in 2024, researching how s*x hormones influence immune responses to peanut allergies — groundbreaking work that could help lead to more personalized allergy treatments.

"UNK is a gem in central Nebraska," said her faculty mentor, Dr. Joe Dolence. "Our ability to support the kinds of projects that win awards is a testament to how truly wonderful it is to pursue graduate education at UNK."

Sunanda is now a second-year medical student at William Carey University's College of Osteopathic Medicine — and she credits UNK's faculty, mentorship, and research opportunities for laying the foundation.

We welcomed 22 new international students this semester during orientation last week and ended with a fun Tri-City Storms hockey game 🏒

Thank you to all the incredible staff, faculty, and Global Ambassadors who helped welcome and made our new students feel at home, supported, excited, and ready to start their journey here at UNK!
