This fall our members competed in both District and State Range Judging as well as District Land Judging! This was our first year doing Land Judging, and we had a great time exploring this new competition. Thanks to everyone who made this possible for us this year. We look forward to continuing to learn and grow in both of these contests next year! 🌿💚🪏

Lots of good deals this year and they can be used unlimited times until they expire next fall.

Kearney High hosted a training for the Nebraska Farm Bureau Connecting Chapters program for area schools earlier this week. A handful of our officers learned the lessons they'll be teaching elementary students about agriculture. They even practiced leading storytime with a book that is focused on Ag. We are excited to share Ag literacy with our future FFA members and connect them with agriculture! 🚜🐂🌾

If you want to know what excellent leadership, teamwork, and positive attitudes look like, the Aksarben Swine Show highlighted all those things in the seven members that helped this past weekend. Over 700 pigs went through the showring over the weekend and many families commented how smoothly it was run and were impressed that high school FFA members played a large role in this. From running registration, checking in every class, opening gates, penning, prepping the rings, checking EID tags, and more, they were great help! This wouldn't be possible without the excellent guidance of the Swine Superintendents and other volunteers on the Swine Crew. Among them was a Kearney FFA alumni who has been extraordinary help every year, even after graduating. Thank you Alyvia for your dedication to helping with the Aksarben Swine Show and being a great role model for our members! Also a big thank you to the Aksarben staff for providing hotel rooms and meals over the weekend.

Thank you to Alex, Keagan, Easton, Addy, Alli, Aspen, and Ella for all your hard work and the fun times over the weekend! Everyone is rested up and looking forward to the next FFA event! 🐷

We had a great group of members learn all about agriculture at Husker Harvest Days yesterday! Between competing in contests, trying out new equipment, and connecting with industry leaders, we had a great day! Here are a few highlights! 🚜🌽

Last week 10 of our members took their Range Judging skills on the road to compete at Area Contest in Valentine. They challenged themselves with range plant identification, estimating Ecological Sites, and calculating stocking rates as well as making range management decisions. The icing on the cake was being outside on a beautiful morning in the Sandhills! Even better... our members improved from last year or tried something new for the first time! Here are the scores from last week's contest:

We are looking forward to competing at State Range Judging in North Platte next week! It's a short and sweet season and we're developing knowledge and skills for a lifetime!

Kearney FFA definitely heated things up at the Nebraska State Fair during the warm Labor Day weekend! We are so proud of our current and alumni members for exhibiting the projects they poured so much time and energy into to prepare for the State Fair. Here are the results:

MacKinzey Brennan:
- Reserve Champion Out-of-School Swine Showmanship
- Light Colored Crossbred Breeding Gilt: Purple and 1st
- Dark Colored Div. 1 Market Gilt: Purple and 2nd

Brianna Brown:
- Jan-Feb 2025 Angus Heifer: Purple
- Junior Beef Showmanship: Purple

Eva Brown

- Junior High Beef Showmanship: Purple

Range Boards:

Additionally, we had a team compete in the Dairy Evaluation Contest at the Nebraska State Fair. The team consisted of Graden Forbes, Lander Forbes, Tyson Schroer and Cole Banzhaf. Their results were:

Graden F: 2nd Place Individual (Purple)
Lander F: 5th Place Individual (Purple)

On Friday, September 4th, stop by Aurora Cooperative’s A-Stop on East 25th Street and fuel up! Aurora Cooperative will donate 10 cents from every gallon purchased that day to the Kearney FFA Chapter.
