Calling all junior engineers! Join us at the Hawaii Science and Technology Museum for our next Keiki STEM Workshop: Gear Up & Go! Your keiki will dive into the world of mechanical engineering as they build their very own geared cars. It’s hands-on, high-energy, and the perfect way to spark a love for science!

Join us at the Hawai‘i Science & Technology Museum on Saturday, February 7, 2026, for a hands-on STEM Workshop where children in grades 1–6 can build and test their own gear-powered blenders! Sessions are available from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with 10 spots per hour. Admission is free with museum entry ($1 for children, $2 for adults). Each child must be accompanied by a guardian. Aloha Keiki Labs Ohana! Join us on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM in Waimea for two exciting, free events:

1. Light Science Interactive Exhibition at NASA Library

Experience the magic of rainbows through interactive displays:

- Rainbow Spectrometers: Split white light into six vibrant colors using our unique spectrometers.

- Play with Light and Shadow: Experiment with primary light colors to create secondary colors and explore the fascinating world of shadows.

This exhibition, a collaboration between Keiki Labs and Hawai‘i Keiki Museum, will be open to the public for at least six months, offering a fun and educational experience for keiki of all ages.

2. Astro Bash at Thelma Parker Memorial Public and School Library

Celebrate the end of our summer reading challenge and the beginning of a new school year at the Astro Bash, featuring:

- Space Stations: Explore and learn about our solar system, galaxies, and the universe at space stations hosted by our NASA@My Library and community partners, including the Maunakea Observatories, NASA Solar System Ambassadors, Girl Scouts of Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum, and more.

- Giant Foam Cannon: Bring a towel and get foamed by a giant (environmentally-friendly) foam cannon.

- Face Painting and Balloon Stations: Enjoy space-themed face painting and balloon creations.

Both events are free and open to the public. Don’t miss this opportunity to inspire young minds and foster a love for science and the cosmos. Bring the whole family for a day of fun and learning!

Celebrate World Ocean Day with Museum Square!

Join us for Keiki Labs' "Explorers: Earth, Sea & Stars" workshop at the Hawai‘i Keiki Museum in Waikoloa Village from June 9th to 11th, 2025. Each day offers unique, hands-on activities designed to ignite curiosity and foster a love for science in young minds.

Day 1: June 9th, 2025 – Learning the Big Island

- Craft Your Own Big Island Map: Create a 3D map to explore the island's geography and natural features.
- Hands-On Agricultural Adventure: Learn about local crops and animals through interactive mapping and clay modeling.
- Fizzy Volcanoes & Sweet Eruptions: Engage in a fun science experiment simulating volcanic eruptions with safe, edible materials.

Day 2: June 11th, 2025 – The Water Cycle

- Water Cycle in a Bag: Visualize evaporation, condensation, and precipitation through a simple experiment.
- Rain Clouds in a Jar: Simulate precipitation to understand how rain forms.
- Water Filtration Device: Build a simple system to learn about water purification methods.

Day 3: June 13th, 2025 – Ocean Exploration

- Ocean Layers in a Bottle: Explore the density and polarity of oil and water to understand ocean layers.
- Ocean Currents Simulation: Visualize how warm and cold waters create ocean currents.
- Water Pressure Fun: Discover how water pressure increases with depth in the ocean.

Had a blast at the Elementary Science Olympiad on April 18th at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo! Our young scientists in grades 4-6 crafted spinning color wheels, exploring energy, inertia, and perception. A big mahalo to Marisa Miyashiro and the university for hosting such an inspiring event! Thank you for having me. Stay tuned for more exciting workshops and community events designed to ignite a love for science in every keiki.

We had an amazing time at Keonepoko Elementary School’s Science Night on May 7, 2025! Keiki Labs brought the wonders of light science to the keiki, exploring how white light forms a rainbow and the magic behind adding and subtracting lights. The excitement and curiosity were contagious! A heartfelt mahalo to Jadee Takayesu, Educational Outreach Coordinator at the Hawaii Science and Technology Museum, for organizing this event and inviting us to be a part of it. Your dedication to sparking a love for science in our community is truly inspiring.
