🌺 A Day in the Life: Hawaiʻi Campus Custodial Team

A clean classroom. A welcoming library. Safe, well-maintained walkways. These are all part of the learning environment our Hawaiʻi Campus Custodial team helps create every day.

From caring for classrooms and common spaces to power washing outdoor areas and operating specialized equipment, our custodians help keep campus clean, safe and ready for learning — indoors and out. With modern tools, power equipment and utility vehicles, they have what they need to do meaningful work that makes a difference in the student experience.

But when we asked team members what they love most about their work, their answers weren't about the equipment or the tasks. They talked about our haumāna. 💙

One team member, who has spent more than two decades at KS, shared that their favorite part of the job is watching haumāna grow up. Others spoke about the satisfaction of supporting students and being part of their journey.

Their work may happen behind the scenes, but its impact is felt across campus every day.

✨ Swipe through to see our amazing custodial team in action — and the difference they make.

ASKS Student Body president senior Wehiwaalani Gapero was selected to represent Hawaiʻi at a Fellowship this week exploring how artificial intelligence can be used responsibly, ethically, and productively within school settings.

In a simulated Senate meeting, Student Senators will work together to create a National AI Policy to be shared with School Superintendents Association and its 10,000+ members that outlines principles for responsible, productive, and ethical use of AI in schools.

"...if we’re creating policies that affect our people, I feel like our people should be present at the seat," said Gapero.

Mahalo Wehiwaalani for taking the kuleana of that seat and making sure ʻŌiwi perspectives are considered in determining critical policy.

Two Hawaii Island students will deliberate the future of AI in education at a national fellowship in Boston, Massachusetts, later this month. ⬇
