Upon completion of the program, students are prepared to take various industry certifications to become a certified industry professional. HVAC 1011 - HVAC Technician Level 1a 90 Hours
This class introduces the basics of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) trade. Students will learn trade specific basic safety practices, hand and power tools identification and usage, metal piping systems, the fundamentals of electricity, and basic heating systems. This course acts as an introductory course to HVAC and prepares student for success as they begin training in the HVAC program. HVAC 1012 - HVAC Technician Level 1b 90 Hours
Students will learn the basic principles of refrigeration and air conditioning systems. They will become more familiar with the tools of the trade, how to work with plastic and copper piping as well as the operation and use of torches to braze tubing. Blueprints, symbols and blueprint reading will be introduced. HVAC 1021 - HVAC Technician Level 2a 90 Hours
This course prepares the student to pass the Rocky Mountain Gas Association’s Natural Gas Technician Certification. Alternating current and the various electrical components used in heating and air conditioning systems will be introduced. Students will learn about the operation and testing of electric furnaces and related components. This course also covers solid-state electronics and devices used to control humidity and air cleanliness. Students will learn the basics of residential system sizing, design, fabrication and evaluation. HVAC 1022 - HVAC Technician Level 2b 90 Hours
Students will learn the basic principles of refrigeration and air conditioning systems. They will become more familiar with the EPA requirements for refrigerant handling and prepare for the EPA 608 Exam. As part of the EPA 608 certification we will also cover the topics of reclaiming, recovery and recycling refrigerant. HVAC 1031 - HVAC Technician Level 3a 90 Hours
This class covers the troubleshooting of HVAC accessories, heat pumps, gas heating, hydronic heating and cooling systems. The student will learn specific troubleshooting methods that apply to these types of equipment and the maintenance skills a technician will need in order to service HVAC systems. Students will also learn proper customer service interactions as they apply to the HVAC industry. HVAC 1032 - HVAC Technician Level 3b 90 Hours
The student will learn and be trained on heat pump basics, including troubleshooting and basic installation. Students will learn balance points, Coefficient of Performance (COP’s), Heating Season Performance Factor (HSPF’s) advantages and disadvantages for different applications as well as the growing application of dual-fuel systems. If desired, students will be prepared to take the NATE exam at the end of the course. HVAC 1041 - HVAC Technician Level 4a 90 Hours
This course concentrates on many of the important side issues in the HVAC field. Basic rigging is covered and the student is given training on safe procedure to rigging and crane operations. Airside systems and indoor air quality include two of the most important facets of the HVAC field today. Students will also learn evaporative cooling and energy conservation equipment, as well as economizers and swamp coolers. HVAC 1042 - HVAC Technician Level 4b 90 Hours
In this course students will learn to design residential HVAC systems including Air Conditioning Contractor's of America (ACCA) manual J, S and D. Students will learn duct systems and the selection of equipment such as gas furnaces, heat pumps, dual fuels, water source heat pumps and electric furnaces. Students will learn to calculate heat loss and heat gain.
