Free Summer Lunch starts today! See locations on flyers.

Sixty-one years ago, Head Start started as an 8-week summer program. Eight weeks. The idea was modest by design, a way to see if reaching kids early could make a difference.

It made a difference.

What grew from those first summers is now one of the longest-running early childhood programs in American history, serving families in cities, rural towns, tribal communities, and migrant farmworker camps alike. Forty million children and counting.

Today we mark 61 years — not just with pride, but with real gratitude for the teachers, family advocates, nurses, and parents who do this work every single day.

March was National Sleep Month. Are you getting the best sleep and the right amount?

04/13/2026

March is National Sleep Awareness Month.

Sleep is not a luxury, it’s a biological necessity and a critical pillar of health. When we get enough quality sleep, our bodies and minds are able to repair, restore, and perform at their best.

Most healthy adults need 7–9 hours of sleep each night to support physical health, mental well-being, memory, focus, and emotional resilience.

This month, Southwest Utah Public Health Department and Davis County Health Department are launching a Sleep Health Initiative to help our communities learn practical ways to prioritize sleep and build healthier habits.

By being intentional about our sleep, we can strengthen our health, improve daily performance, and support a healthier community.
