Your piano doesn’t have to sound terrible before it’s time for a tuning. 🎹

Pitch changes happen gradually, which means we often get used to the sound as it drifts. Regular tuning helps keep the instrument stable, musical, and ready to play — rather than waiting until something sounds obviously wrong.

This old upright had seen better days. 🎹 Years of wear had taken their toll, so the action came back to the shop for new hammers, fresh felt throughout, and a full restoration. After a thorough cleaning and polishing, it was ready to make music again.

How often should a piano actually be tuned? 🎹

For most home pianos, tuning about once or twice a year is a good rule of thumb. Pianos that are played heavily, used for performances, or exposed to larger humidity changes may need attention more often.

Even a piano that isn't played very much can drift out of tune over time. The strings remain under tremendous tension 24 hours a day, and the instrument continues responding to changes in its environment.

Regular tuning isn't just about fixing sour notes—it helps keep the piano consistently enjoyable to play.

Fall is here, and seasonal changes can affect your piano more than you might expect. 🎹

Changes in temperature and humidity cause the wooden parts of a piano—especially the soundboard—to expand and contract. That can gradually shift the instrument out of tune even when it hasn't been played much.

If your piano is starting to sound a little different as the seasons change, that's perfectly normal. Regular tuning helps keep it stable and sounding its best throughout the year.
