Our Cinco Ranch students put their knowledge from our week of learning about their teeth into action with a hands on Practical Life experience. Using sliced apples to represent gums, sun butter as the base, and marshmallows as teeth, students created their own smiles while exploring the structure and function of their mouths.
Beyond the activity itself, students were developing fine motor coordination, concentration, sequencing, independence, and the ability to connect classroom learning to a meaningful experience.
At Montessori Reggio Academy® of Katy at Cinco Ranch, we believe children learn best when they are active participants in the learning process. Every experience is an opportunity to explore, apply knowledge, and build skills that extend beyond the classroom.

Little habits today, lifelong skills tomorrow.
Our infants are beginning to explore the importance of oral hygiene through a simple, age appropriate Practical Life experience. As they learn how to hold and use a toothbrush, they are also developing coordination, grasp, control, concentration, and early independence.
At Montessori Reggio Academy®, we believe even the smallest moments can become meaningful learning opportunities. By introducing everyday self care routines from an early age, we encourage our youngest students to begin participating in caring for themselves and their bodies.

Learning is more meaningful when children can put their knowledge into action.
During Dental Week, our students took what they learned during our Anatomy of a Smile lesson and applied it through a hands on Cambridge curriculum Practical Life experience. Using apples to represent gums, sun butter as the base, and marshmallows as teeth, students created their own models while strengthening fine motor coordination, concentration, sequencing, and independence.
This is purposeful learning in action. Through meaningful, hands on experiences, our students are encouraged to connect concepts, explore with intention, and develop skills they can carry beyond the classroom.
