Dear MAPS Families,

What a wonderful start to the school year we are having at Matt Arthur Primary! 💜💚 Our Dragons are learning, growing, making friends, building routines, and showing us more and more each day just how amazing they are. We are so proud of them!

Our littlest Dragons are already settling in! 🐉💚💜

They have been filling their classrooms with smiles, curiosity, and lots of learning. 📚✨

It’s been so sweet to watch our Pre-K friends begin to find their routines, get comfortable in their new classrooms, and show us just how ready they are for a wonderful year!

This year we want to share some of the amazing "Hands On" learning that happens at MAPS each and every day. This week we are diving into Mrs. Mills' Second Grade classroom. Her students recently completed a hands-on science lab to learn about weathering and erosion! 🌧️💨🌱🐾

Using an animal cracker as their “landmark,” they explored how wind, rain, plants, and animals can cause changes to landforms over time. Our little scientists had fun observing how these forces of nature can break down, move, and change Earth’s surface! 🔬🌎

From August 17th through September 18th, MAPS will be raising money for United Way, an organization that helps fund important programs right here in our community, including partnerships with our very own Lindsey Student Support Center Food Bank. The Gifted Department is excited to host Gifted Education Family Information Night! This event is open to all parents interested in learning more about gifted education in HCSD.

Join us for an evening of information, resources, and conversation as we explore what gifted education is—and what it is not—Georgia’s gifted eligibility requirements, the referral and evaluation process, characteristics of gifted students, ways to support your child at home, and HCSD opportunities and resources. There will also be time for you to ask questions and get support.

It’s time for our weekly MAPS Parent Update! We hope everyone has had a wonderful week at The Dragon School!

Attached is this week’s MAPS Parent Newsletter with important dates, upcoming events, announcements, reminders, and information to help you stay connected with what’s happening at MAPS.

We are also sharing our August Instruction at a Glance, which gives you a peek inside our classrooms and highlights what our Dragons are learning this month in Pre-K through Second Grade. Mrs. McIntyre, our amazing Assistant Principal of Instruction, will produce these monthly to help keep everyone informed. We hope you’ll use it to ask your child about what they are learning and celebrate their growth along the way!
