'Twas the night before school, and all through the town,The big yellow buses were parked and locked down.The new clothes were hung by the closet with care,In hopes that the morning would soon get them there.The children were nestled all snug in their beds,While visions of glue sticks danced in their heads.With notebooks and pencils and crayons galore,All zipped in their backpacks and set by the door.When out in the hallway there rose such a clatter,You jumped in the covers to see what was the matter.Away to the window you flew like a flash,Hoping summer wasn't gone in a dash.The moon on the crest of the new-fallen night,Gave the hint of the morning and first-day-of-light.When what to your wondering eyes should appear,But a brand new school year and your new grade right here!So close your tight eyes and drift off to sleep,Put aside all the worries you've started to keep.Morning will come with a smile and a cheer,Have a wonderful, happy, and fun-filled school year!
