🎨🎀 Artists Visit Tri-County Schools 🎀🎨

Tri-County students had the unique opportunity to learn from two talented visiting artists through COMPAS artist residencies.

Students in grades 8-12 worked with Spoken Word artist Desdamona, exploring creative writing, self-expression, and performance through poetry and spoken word. With her guidance, students drafted and shared original pieces that reflected their own experiences, interests, and voices.

Meanwhile, students in grades 6, 7, 8, and 10 worked alongside sculptor Layl McDill to create colorful polymer clay animal sculptures while learning about sculpture, color, and 3D design. Several student creations were featured in our Spring Art Show.

These hands-on experiences encouraged creativity, self-expression, and learning through the arts while providing students with the opportunity to work directly with professional artists.

A special thank you to Elwyn Ruud for the countless hours she dedicates to grant writing, coordinating these opportunities, and securing funding that brings enriching experiences like these to Tri-County students. Much of what our students are able to experience through the arts is possible because of her hard work behind the scenes, and we are incredibly grateful for all she does for our school.

We also extend our thanks to COMPAS, the Minnesota State Arts Board, and the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council for helping make these opportunities possible.

πŸ“š Growing Readers All Summer Long β˜€οΈ

At Tri-County, we believe that investing in our teachers is investing in our students.

This year, eight of our elementary teachers completed the full two-year LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training, while two additional teachers completed Year 1 and are continuing into Year 2 in the fall. Through more than 160 hours of graduate-level professional learning, these educators deepened their understanding of how students learn to read and strengthened the literacy instruction happening in our classrooms each day.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication and perseverance these teachers have shown. Their commitment to learning is helping ensure that Tri-County students receive the strongest literacy instruction possible. Our investment in literacy continues beyond the elementary grades, with our high school teachers beginning STRIVE training this spring and continuing their learning next year.

As we celebrate this accomplishment, we also encourage families to continue fostering a love of reading throughout the summer. Summer break is a wonderful time to rest, recharge, and make memories, but maintaining reading habits can make a tremendous difference when students return to school in the fall.

β˜€οΈ Tri-County Summer Reading Challenge β˜€οΈ

Challenge your family to read 20 minutes each day this summer!

Whether it's a picture book before bed, a chapter book at the lake, a magazine on a rainy day, or an audiobook on a road trip, every minute spent reading matters.

πŸ“Έ We'd love to see our readers in action! Share a photo in the comments of:
πŸ“š Your child reading
πŸ“š A favorite summer book
πŸ“š A library visit
πŸ“š Reading at the lake, campsite, ball field, or anywhere your summer adventures take you

Together, let's celebrate reading and keep our students growing all summer long.
