Nobody but you will ever know your story of what you have been through. And when trying to be the bigger person, you will often bite your tongue to protect your children, your sanity, your peace while others swirl around with inaccurate versions. Some people will conveniently forget the truth because having to acknowledge what you have been or are still being put through would make them uncomfortable and most people don’t want to deal with that.

Others will blame you. If you are dealing with a narcissist or abuser, everything is always your fault. Sometimes your own family or children may turn on you.

Others will know your story but it may be so wild they can’t wrap their heads around it or it seems unbelievable.

When you know that you will lose more than just your spouse in the divorce process, you can proactively start making intentional new friends and seeking out expert advice to get you through.

When you learn to stop asking permission or needing approval from people who don’t get it, you will realize YOU are still writing your story.

When we are young, our world is full of possibilities.

When we got married, we were full of dreams.

Somewhere along the way, we forgot to dream.

We are no longer believing in “potential”, but that our best years are somehow behind us.

What you focus on expands.

When we are suffering, it is natural to find others suffering to commiserate with.
They understand our pain, our agony, our frustration.

And while it is sometimes comforting to know we are not alone, I encourage you to seek out people who have come out on the other side.

They may still struggle, but they are overcoming it.
They can see the light.
They have taken steps forward.

Who you surround yourself with matters.
What you focus on matters.

What is one thing you can do today to connect to an overcomer?

It’s not just you, it’s royalty too……..

One of the easiest yet hardest (when you are emotionally charged or triggered) ways to reduce conflict or even end an argument is knowing when to NOT ENGAGE. We want to be right, heard, correct lies, tell our STBX what we think about them, etc. but much like fighting online in the comments section this typically just ignites more conflict and nobody really walks away “winning” or with a changed heart/mind.

What it DOES do is lead to more conflict. More conflict when your divorce is still in process often leads to more calls/emails to your lawyer, less progress, and ultimately more money spent with the divorce professionals. What it can lead to post divorce is more retaliation, more stress, and more focus on your ongoing conflict vs. focusing on bettering your new life.

This is just one example of a client I have been working with employing the skills I have taught her to not respond to things that don’t require a response.

If you have young children and are in the process of getting a divorce or divorce, definitely recommend this book.

Children’s books are a great way to explain things in their language as well as make them feel less alone. If they are reading about something that sounds so similar to their life in a book that can’t be the only one that happens to, right?
