Someone dropped off fresh roses from a 7’ rose bush today. He works hard and takes care of his 93 year old Japanese mother. They smell heavenly. Red wanted to be painted. It just had to be expressed. Yet I faced incredible frustration and blocks when I started this painting. I nearly gave up and resistance came roaring showing up as imposter syndrome. Who am I to paint? You suck! You’ll never be as good a your master mom! Yet, a little voice said it was a phase, to accept the struggle and uncertainty, that it was a natural part of the creative process. And I prayed to my muses, both my mom and sister (discussed.) And magic began to flow. I hope you like it! ❤️🌺🐬

Plumerias 16” x 20” oil. I was struggling with this one. Stuck. Then I prayed to my mama, a great artist and lover of beauty. I realized that I needed to look at my large pencil drawing of it to understand the values… and then, the red cardinal out in the plumeria tree started to sing the most beautiful melody. All of a sudden, I knew what to do and my paintbrush started to flow. The sweet cardinal sang it into existence. ❤️🙏
