Violent Encounter Survival Training designed for EMS, fire, and healthcare personnel—filling the critical gap in responder safety.

Report Workplace Violence 06/01/2026

The first step in identifying what we all know is happening to our healthcare workers, is by reporting it.

Time after time, incidents are pushed under the rug by those in power or providers feel so helpless that anything will happen, that what is happening becomes under reported.

This website brings an end to that.

The next time you experience a violent encounter, fill out this short survey so we have the data to make the changes!

Report Workplace Violence Start a secure workplace violence incident report to improve safety for first responders.

Weekly Scrap #356 - Jake Hecht: Addressing the Violence 05/28/2026

Had an amazing time sitting down with Corley Moore on the Weekly Scrap. Just scraped the surface of what Vest Responder can provide for your agency to prevent and handle violent encounters. Give this a listen, like, and share please. The more agencies that know about our curriculum, the more first responders will become prepared to handle WPV, and in-turn become safer on the job. Thank you again for having me on.

🤘🤘See you live TONIGHT at 8pm CST with the man himself, Jake Hecht founder of Vest Responder 🔗YouTube.com/FirehouseVigilance

Set your reminders. Share this everywhere. Tag your crew!

From high school history teacher to pro MMA fighter (3× UFC veteran) and now firefighter, Jake turned a violent patient encounter into a mission, dedicating his career to protecting those who protect others. As a former Army Combatives Instructor and former Lead Defensive Tactics Instructor for the Columbia, Missouri Police Department, Jake has now trained more than 3,000 firefighters and EMS providers across 10 states on practical, field-tested workplace violence survival.
On this episode we’re digging into: How VEST was born from real calls and why there’s virtually no standardized training for violent patient encounters in fire/EMS . Why most de-escalation talk is empty buzzwords and exactly where the line is before physical options kick in. Common admin objections and the culture that treats getting assaulted as “part of the job”.

We will also discuss the reporting platform that Jake built to stop sweeping these incidents under the rug - www.firstresponderviolence.com

Of coure, we can always count on the live audience to bring the heat with their questions. It is what continues to make the Scrap the absolute best. We’ll go wherever the conversation takes us.

At VEST, we pause today to show respect and thank those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, both home and abroad in the service of others.

We are grateful for all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy this miraculous thing we call freedom.

WE. ARE. OUT. HERE.

It was an absolute dream come true to present at the IAFF Fifth District Conference yesterday. Countless examples from hundreds of providers we heard from of violent encounters and the need for a structured, field tested program to be implemented.

We will be rolling our program out in Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota over the next few months. A lot of work to be done in the name of first responder safety.

Thank you for having us!

Happy EMS week to all of our field clinicians! We see you grinding everyday. Through the low pay, through the abuse, through the low morale, you keep showing up. Everyday you put on the uniform and show your dedication to ensuring complete strangers have hope on their worst day.

Here at VEST, we are proud to call you our friends, and work everyday to ensure your safety.

Like and comment a story of how VEST has helped you in your practice and we will choose one winner for a VEST swag bag!

After months of emails exchanged with the Kansas Board of EMS, getting a Kansas Board doctor to serve as medical director, training 2 excellent instructors through our Train-the-Trainer program, and creating a very extensive continued education program; Vest Responder is now able to issue CEUs in the state of Kansas. We look forward to rolling our curriculum out to Kansas departments to keep first responders safer across the state. Contact VEST today to reserve a spot for your agency.
