Welcome back, Eagles! ๐ฆ To introduce myself to those I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting, my name is Caitlin Carney, and I am the music teacher here at EL! This is my 17th year here, and I couldn't be more excited. I graduated from William Jewell College twice; once with my B.S. degree in Vocal Music Education K-12, and again with my M.S. Ed. in Differentiated Instruction. I also hold an Education Specialist degree in School Administration: Principalship from Arkansas State University. My husband, Carl, and I have two children: Jameson, 8, and Sutton, 6. This summer we also added Brewer, a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix puppy to the fam. We enjoy traveling, spending time exploring Kansas City (even though we've lived here our entire lives), and indulging in our foodie sides. ๐ One of my favorite things about teaching elementary music is the opportunity to watch these kids grow and evolve over their six years here and then the years beyond- it's a treat! Time flies. ๐๐ Please stay in touch- your comments, reactions, tags, and shares are so special. It means a lot to see my kids' families enjoying seeing what the kids are doing in music (and that our Eagle music classes are about more than just our AWESOME musicals). Enjoy following us along here during our 2026-2027 journey- many photos and videos to come! ๐ถ

As part of our series breaking down the important graphics for the 2026-2027 school year, this week we're highlighting one of our favorite traditions at English Landing: Grade-Level Musicals!
Each grade level has the opportunity to perform a musical during the school year. These performances showcase the hard work students put into learning songs, practicing speaking parts, and building confidence on stage.
For many students, a musical is much more than a performance. It is an opportunity to develop teamwork, creativity, public speaking skills, and confidence while having fun with classmates.
For families, musicals are another great opportunity to engage with our school community. Whether your child has a speaking role, sings in the choir, helps behind the scenes, or simply participates with their class, these evenings are a chance to celebrate student growth and create lasting memories together.
๐ญ What to Expect:
- Student performances featuring music, movement, and storytelling
- A chance to see classroom learning come to life
- An opportunity to connect with other Eagle families
- Plenty of proud parent and guardian moments!
All musicals begin at 7:00 PM, and doors open at 6:30 PM. Families should plan to park in the back of the building and enter through Door 7.
We hope you'll mark your grade level's performance date on your calendar and join us in celebrating our amazing Eagles!

Eagles Always SOAR! ๐ถ ๐ญ
From Riverside to the Great White Way, we have our first-ever nominee from Park Hill South heading to The Jimmy Awards! ๐
We are of Park Hill South High School's Megan Sheehan for winning the Jimmy Awards Best Actor title at Starlight's annual Blue Star Awards for her performance as Judas in "Jesus Christ Superstar."
The Blue Star Awards recognize exceptional musical theatre talent in our region. By winning, Megan advances to the Jimmy Awards (National High School Musical Theatre Awards) in New York City this June! Often referred to as the high school equivalent of the Tony Awards, the national competition will see her train with industry professionals and compete on a Broadway stage. โจ
Congratulations, Megan!

200 future Panthers took the stage last night to sing 9 songs they worked to prepare over the course of the semester, led by the 6 Southside music teachers. They sounded great! ๐ถ ๐๐ป ๐
