Culture, modern medicine, even (especially?) religion won’t encourage you to listen to your innate intelligence, but that wisdom inside exists nonetheless and is waiting for your attention and tending. From it, you’ll eventually find a transformed, and dare I say, magical, relationship with yourself by trusting that guidance inside.

There’s a trap we all get snagged in at some point in our lives. We’re conditioned to be better or different than we are- maybe it’s our personality or our body or our status in life- there’s always something that, perhaps many somethings!-that we believe need to be changed because we’re not good enough or we’re fundamentally bad as we are. This pattern is ingrained deeply in me. And while it doesn’t run me anymore, I had to make friends with the parts I deemed bad instead of trying to control them or scrub them away. It is acceptance of who we are, in all our perfect humanity, not denial, control or judgment that truly frees us from the exhaustion of efforting to be good. May you turn toward those places in yourself instead of trying to be good on top of them.

I used to be naive enough to think that western medicine was an institution that was largely unnecessary and totally out of touch….but oh little arrogant me, I simply had no genuine concept of how sick people truly are.

Our way of life has contributed to vast amounts of preventable pain, agony, loss and lack of vitality. I see now how our culture reinforces our medical system of care and how our medical system reinforces our way of life.

But I believe that a shift is happening and a better way is possible, not just for those that can buy their way into expensive holistic treatments but for a real transformation of how we eat, relate and live in our bodies, with each other and with our food and planet.

The reality is that people are actually hungry for a mode of care that embues wholism, compassion and connection in this way. Sometimes we know we need something different we just don’t know what that different is until someone offers an invitation.
