We're excited to announce our exhibition, "Beat the Heat," opening on First Friday, June 5, at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery!

Through diverse techniques and materials, the artists capture the distinctive spirit of summer, evoking both the warmth of the season and relief from its oppressive heat. Each artist addresses a key aspect of the summer experience—whether it’s vibrant nightlife, exploring the outdoors and urban environments, or finding moments of calm amid the season’s frenzy. Together, they consider the central question: “What Beats the Heat?”

This exhibition features work by Ekin Atyac and Josh Davids, Robert Bingaman, Element Ten, Erica Iman, Georgia Jankowski, and Ethan Stern.

We invite you to the First Friday opening reception from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.

For the last week of our "Experimenting with Raku" class, students opened bundles they made for Sagger Raku!

Last week, students covered their pieces with organic material such as avocado peels, banana peels, eggshells, along with copper wire, h**p, steel wool, and more. The pieces (image two) were then wrapped with paper strips covered in slip, left to dry for the week, and then fired in the raku kiln.

Students also had another chance to try American, Obvara, Naked, and Horsehair raku.

Join us on Sunday, May 31, for our Community Raku Firing and Potluck! We will only be firing American Raku, but come hang out as we fire the pots.

Visit Belgerarts.org to learn more about upcoming classes and events.

All three Belger Arts locations will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, May 26.

Have a safe holiday weekend!

This week, our students tried Horsehair and Naked Raku! 🐴

During the Horsehair Raku, students applied horsehair, feathers, wool, honey, and sugar to their pieces immediately after being pulled from the kiln. This technique burns smoke and carbon trails on the piece, leaving texture from the materials.

Students also tried Naked Raku, a technique where a white slip is applied to the piece before it is placed in the raku kiln. This slip then creates cracks that texture the piece.

Join us on Sunday, May 31, for our Community Raku Firing and Potluck! We will only be firing American Raku, but come hang out as we fire the pots.

Visit Belgerarts.org to learn more about upcoming classes and events.

"Proximity and Practice: Belger Arts’ Thirteenth Annual Resident Exhibition" is opening First Friday, June 5, at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery!

Over the past year, these eight resident artists have pushed their studio practices, exploring how proximity—or lack thereof—shapes their connections to family, community, online spaces, and the physical world.

Join us for opening night from 6PM to 8PM and hear remarks from a few of the artists at 6:30PM. Also, view our other exhibition "Beat the Heat" and shop our collection "Dog Days," featuring work from some of our studio members.

Come join us for a fun afternoon of firing outdoors with Raku!

You can bring your own pre-bisqued pieces or purchase a piece made by our staff and residents, which are ready to decorate.

Bring some food to share, and come hang out as we fire the pots, watch us pull them from the kiln while they’re red hot, enjoy the drama and excitement of the reduction flames, and walk away with a truly unique memento (or three).

All ages welcome, no experience needed!
