Due to inclement weather, this week’s middle school tournament at Gloria Willis has been rescheduled for next Thursday, February 27th.

Last year, Francesca Menes and Dr. Kerra Akanbi (McCorkle) launched the McCorkle and Menes Social Change Scholarship. Both ladies graduated from Central High School (CHS) in 2003, where they were policy debaters who participated in the DEBATE-Kansas City program. This is where they developed a passion for politics, policy and social issues impacting our communities.
Last year’s inaugural scholarship recipient, Tyra made the Dean’s List last semester at Kansas State University!
As they continue paying it forward, we are happy to announce the 2025 application is open! They are offering one (1) graduating senior a $1,500 scholarship. The goal of the scholarship is to support a deserving student passionate about using their education and skills to create positive social change.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must meet the requirements below. Please read the requirements carefully to ensure you meet eligibility before applying.
✅Current high school senior.
✅Participant in the DEBATE-Kansas City Program
✅2.75 GPA or higher.
✅One Page Essay (300-500 words)

Unfortunately, due to previous and current weather conditions, the High School City Championship taking place this weekend has been postponed.
