19th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote was passed 100 years ago today 10/03/2019

The 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, guaranteeing American women the right to vote, celebrates a big birthday on Tuesday, as it was passed by both chambers of Congress 100 years ago on June 4, 1919. According to the National Archives, the House of Representatives first passed the amendment on May 21, 1919, and two weeks later, on June 4, the Senate followed with a vote of 56 to 25. The next year, following approval by three-fourths of state legislatures, the amendment was ratified into the Constitution. --

Why Grown Men are Afraid of Greta Thunberg

Photos from Kansas City Missouri Police Department's post 09/27/2019

DARE Officer Liz Comino brought some of her 4th-graders from J.A. Rogers Elementary School to the Trail of Heroes on the campus of our Police Academy to spread mulch for a community service project. The Trail honors members of KCPD who have passed away and is open to the public. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the trail! If your group would be interested in doing this as a community service project, call Facilities Manager Mike Arndt at 816-413-3660. Great for students seeking community service hours!

Sometimes the waters build. Sometimes the dam just breaks.

Impeachment, long more a thought experiment and cable news debate point than a looming political reality is now on the tongue as the drama on Capital Hill ratchets up in its intensity.

One could say we are heading into the unknown, but we have already been there for years. And yet to diminish the gravity or import of the chapter we may soon enter would be a mistake.

The impetus for impeachment is of course the emerging outrage around President Trump reportedly extorting a foreign government to influence our elections. It is, if true, an echo of the Russian investigation only even worse, as he is doing all of this with the power of a sitting president.

The Ukraine scandal is new and easily understood, both factors of which are oxygen for the political engines of Washington.

There was a lot of handwringing over how Nancy Pelosi and Congressional Democratic leaders have handled holding the president accountable. But all that likely will be forgotten if the Speaker gives her stamp on impeachment, even if her hand was forced. And attention must also focus on Congressional Republicans who must measure how history, and the American public, will judge them in a moment of reckoning.
